My pumpkin, squash, and melon patch. I love the grass walkways. It’s so lush and beautiful. However, it’s not sustainable. The plants are growing into the walkways and it has become challenging to pick up the vines as I mow. Next year, I’ll use landscape cloth for the paths. I’ve learned that growing flowers and pumpkins for yourself is very different than growing on a larger scale for a business. I already have a list of things I’m changing up for next year. Last year there were issues due to lack of pollination. This year the area is surrounded by a carpet of clover. It’s a perfect haven for the sweet little pollinators and they are clearly visiting the patch.

Nighthawks. They are acrobatic and fly really close, within a couple feet of us. It’s a little freaky! I don’t think they’re afraid of people. Several show up in the early evening and swoop up and down over the property. The flower area has become a sanctuary for all sorts of birds and wildlife.

These are the first zinnias to bloom. They are a cut-and-come-again flower. As they age the bloom will get larger, and the flowers will become more dome shaped. They are out-of-control stunning! Look at the detail. Thank you to Erin . She and her team work tirelessly to bring new and unique varieties to the world. I’m so excited to see more of these beauties in bloom.

I love flowers! But anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE everything pumpkin. Here are my rows of pumpkin, squash, and melons. I think laying landscape fabric in windy weather by yourself is an art form! One of these days I’ll post a video on the way I do it.

There’s something nostalgic and magical about a posie of heirloom scented sweet peas. Their scent brings me back to a time when my children were young and our days were filled with homeschooling, playing outside, and discovering the natural world that we had all around us. I remember being handed a bunch of sweet peas by little hands. This little jar of sweet peas is a precious reminder of days gone by.

Are there certain flowers that bring back memories for you?

The Blessings Project is a way to bring joy and hope to people in our community, greater Tonasket area. Growing flowers to give away is what it’s all about. If you would like to nominate someone going through a difficult time or someone that’s always helping others please private message me. Include 1-2 sentences why your nominee should receive the flowers. The deadline is Wednesday, April 24. I’ll choose a recipient and make sure that they receive a bouquet. We still have some time left before tulip season draws to a close. There will be a lull until the summertime flowers are in bloom and we can begin again.

There’s going to be a lot of work done in this greenhouse! I can hardly wait. We are absolutely thrilled with it. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is unsurpassed. Jesse made sure that the greenhouse was resting within 1/16” of an inch where we wanted it. It’s a wonderful small family-owned business. .rustic.designs

This warms my heart. A fellow flower farmer sent me, for free, a box of floret dahlia tubers. I didn’t have very many. Now I have a box full. Flower farmers are some of the most supportive and kindest people I’ve ever met.

Meet the new member of Florasage Farm. We’re going to create a flower cart using this old International trailer. Stay tuned for the finished product. We’re going to replace the newer wheels with something old to keep with the time period of the trailer. It shouldn’t be too difficult to find old rusty wheels. If you have a flower cart, post your photos in the comments. I’d love to see what you all have come up with.
