Aaahhh… campanula and Italian pansies. So fresh and pretty! They are perfect for a cottage garden. I’m partial to the tall blooms with flowers along the stem. Aren’t the bells the sweetest?

It’s been a while since I’ve been on social media. I’ve had my head down planting my seedlings, mowing, fixing irrigation, weeding and more weeding… I created a sunflower circle this year and a new herb garden. One more herb bed to put in this year, finish the climbing rose arches, and the centerpiece. Next year, I’ll put in four more herb beds and create flagstone paths through the herb garden and to the peonies. The perennials and starts are looking healthy.

I let a handful of peonies bloom. I cut the rest of the buds off so the energy can go towards creating a healthier plant with strong roots. One more year for some of the peonies and they’ll be ready to harvest.

I released my first canister of lacewing larvae this week. They’re natural predators used in organic gardening.

I started these pansies last fall. I covered them with frost cloth to overwinter. They are so fragrant and frilly. They bloom in soft shades of burgundy, mauve, blush, cream, and yellow. I picked some this evening to press.

It started to rain while I was planting the sweet peas today. We definitely need the rain! The next step will be to build a structure over the sweet peas. This will protect them from the sun and hot temperatures we get here.

I not only grow organic herbs for my bouquets, but also use them when I’m cooking. This is a favorite!

Honey Glazed Carrots

2 Tbs butter - melt butter
Add carrots, slice thin
Add 2 Tbs of honey
2 Tbs maple sugar or brown sugar
Add herbs of your choice. I added thyme and rosemary from my garden.

That’s it. So easy!

Hi there! I’m looking forward to seeing you all this year! If we haven’t met yet… I’m Kim. This is my flower farm. I work full-time too and spend the cold days of the year planning for flower season. Right now I’m in the thick of starting seed, laying fabric, weeding, and planting. I went to school for horticulture and landscape design. I volunteered for a bit at the Bellevue Arboretum too. It’s my passion! Rhett grew up farming and orcharding a few hundred acres with his family in the Okanogan Valley. We farmed several varieties of organic pears on ten acres. It’s a tough way to go on smaller acreage. It was bittersweet the day we pushed it all over. Now I’m flower farming on the same acreage. Rhett’s handy with the tractor and jumps in to help me with larger projects when he can. Big equipment is his thing! He works full-time too and has a rock and soil delivery business on the side.

I’m looking forward to this flower season, bringing beauty to you all and starting The Blessings Project again. Stay tuned! And most of all thank you for supporting local.

The quail begin laying in early Spring. Jumbo Coturnix Quail are larger than our native quail. They lay larger eggs and start laying at 6-8 weeks of age!

Quail eggs are more nutrient-dense per gram, than chicken eggs. They have higher levels of protein, fat (the good kind), riboflavin, and vitamin B12. They don’t keep like chickens. They prefer to be cozy and are happy in a hutch style cage. Because of the higher ratio of yolk to egg white, omelets and quiche turn out light and fluffy. And the eggs are beautiful too!
