The calves grow so fast. Just a little over a month old for the oldest. They’re starting to be a little independent.

Today is one of the most rewarding days, but also one of the most somber days on the farm.

Early this morning, before first light, the steers were loaded up and taken to be processed. They were on this farm and under our care for 33 months—from conception (we AI our cows to Wagyu bulls) all the way to finish.

They were cared for and fed daily. For the 20 months since weaning, they never missed a single daily feeding. And for the last 5 months, they’ve been fed twice a day. Rain, snow, or 100-degree heat... it didn’t matter. They were always our top priority.

We are incredibly proud of the beef we raise and deeply thankful to be able to do this work. To our customers: thank you for trusting us to feed your family. 🙏🐄

Pair of Bald Eagles in the calving pasture today. I won’t tell you what they were eating, but fortunately it wasn’t a calf 🤞 . I originally thought they were a couple of my black baldy calves from a distance—I was a bit surprised when I realized what they were. Those are a rare sight around here. They were extinct in the area for decades, but thankful conservation was able to bring them back.

Red sky in morning, sailors take warning. They’re forecasting up to 5 inches of rain by Thursday…maybe that will get the creek running again. We haven’t really been that dry, but dry enough that our springs haven’t been producing.

Quiet early Sunday mornings are the best with new life on the farm.
