The latest:
PJ our young Serama is really looking good. Our disabled Serama chick is still doing good. (She’s the white/cream chick)
And to my surprise one of the Rhode Island Reds we got as her companion is actually a pullet. Thankfully not two roosters like I originally thought. They’re all still hanging out together for now and doing great.
We have Serama hatching eggs from our cuckoo and mixed color flocks available for local pickup if any interested.

He’s the son of our first cuckoo Serama rooster Apollo aka Polly. PJ “Polly Jr.” it is.
These pictures make him seem so much bigger than he really is. This fella is super tiny and quite the cuddle bug. His favorite spot is nuzzled under your chin. 🥰🥰

Supervised outings are part of the Serama life around here. Fresh grass, bugs, natural dust baths on a sunny, breezy day is what makes our birds thrive and live life to the fullest.

A few tips for raising Serama chicks:
(Mention any I forgot in the comments if you wish)

1. Chick crumble is typically too large for these tiny chicks. I recommend slightly blending/grinding/mashing their crumbles smaller for the first several weeks.

2. A normal size chick waterer is a drowning hazard. I recommend getting the quail bottom or adding rocks into the normal sized water to keep these tiny chicks from falling into the water.

3. I’ve personally found puppy pads, paper towels or very fine shaving better to raise the chicks until they are a few weeks old.

4. Heat plates only work for Serama if they are in a heated room or the weather is appropriate outside. Heat lamps (while they have hazards) are best for outside use since night temps can dip down chilling the chicks too much.

5. They require constant cuddles. This step can’t be skipped 🤪🤪

Those are just a few simple tips for raising Serama. Please be prepared before deciding to hatch some of your own.

A Serama cuddle puddle is just what I need at the end of the day 🥰🥰
