It's (finally) Sunflower Season!
If you've been following the farm for any amount of time you know that we have a Deer problem. And they LOVE our sunflowers almost as much as y'all do! Only trouble is that they enjoy snacking on the sunflower sprouts when they first pop up, and will eat about 1000 sunflower sprouts in a single night, which means we have to start over and replant.
Well, after a few years of battling the deer snack attacks in spring, I decided to stop feeding them my sunflower starts and just wait to plant the first succession until there is more food elsewhere and they leave my field alone! (Sorry to all of my neighbors who ended up feeding the little boogers instead! 😉)
The time has FINALLY come, and we have our first sunnies of 2026! Since it's been a minute, I'd like to remind you that we cut our sunflower blooms before they fully open so that they will have the longest vase life for you. If you see blooms in a bunch that are still closed, don't worry, they will open in the vase!
There are bunches at the flower stand for you and I will be restocking periodically all weekend!
