August, you were a lot. In the very best way. 🌸

Weddings, flowers everywhere, subscriptions, a little road trip, a team hike, and a field that somehow just kept getting better.

A very full, very colorful month at Moondance.

August has been BUSY in the very best way 🌸🌸🌸

So many flowers, so many beautiful details, & a whole lot of wedding magic happening before guests ever arrive.

For us, the best weddings are the ones where flowers get to take center stage… abundant ceremony installations, tables layered with seasonal blooms, beautiful bouquets, and little floral moments tucked throughout the day.

And behind all of it are months of planning & growing, followed by harvesting, processing & designing hundreds (sometimes thousands!) of stems here on the farm.

Everything you see here was grown in our fields on Old Mission Peninsula & chosen because it was at its most beautiful right then, for that particular wedding, in that particular season.

If you’re dreaming of a Northern Michigan wedding where the flowers are part of the experience, not just part of the décor, we’d love to create it with you. Comment WHIMSY to get started.

Why does every Moondance wedding get different flowers? Because we don’t design from recipes.

Long before your wedding day, we’ll know your colors, your venue, your priorities & how you want your flowers to feel. What we won’t have is a fixed list of exact stems that needs to be recreated months later.

Instead, we leave room for the field. A variety might be having its absolute best week. An unexpected texture might be too beautiful not to use. A flower you never knew to request might capture the feeling you wanted even better than the one you had in mind.

That flexibility is one of our favorite parts of designing with flowers grown right here at Moondance. Your flowers become a snapshot of your wedding, your place & one very specific moment in the field.

No recipes. No replicas. Just flowers that belong entirely to your day.

We wrote more about why we work this way in our new blog post, now on Field Notes. Find it at the link in our bio. If this sounds like the kind of wedding flowers you want, comment WHIMSY and we’ll send you the link.

There are plenty of ways to buy beautiful flowers. Choosing Moondance is about everything that comes with them.

Flowers planned & planted months before your date. Grown thoughtfully here in Northern Michigan. Harvested at their best. Designed around your colors, feeling & story, completely customized to you - no replicas. The flowers will be beautiful. But the way they were grown & the care behind them are what make them Moondance.

If this sounds like your kind of wedding, comment WHIMSY to learn more.

When Alyssa & Brendan first shared their vision for white & green wedding flowers, they were quick to call their palette boring.

We knew their flowers would be anything but!

With a classic white & green palette, texture is everything. We grow so many different white flowers, including roses, lilies, hydrangea, snapdragons & cosmos, along with layers of interesting foliage. Mixing shapes, textures, movement & shades of green is what turns a simple palette into something lush, dynamic & full of personality.

And honestly? That’s one of our favorite things about designing with locally grown, seasonal flowers. White & green doesn’t mean choosing two or three flowers from a catalog. It means walking through the fields, seeing what is blooming beautifully that week & bringing it all together in a way that feels abundant, organic & rooted in the season.

A classic palette can still feel wild & whimsical. It can still feel interesting. And it can absolutely make a statement.

So no, Alyssa & Brendan, we don’t think your palette was boring at all. 🙃

How did a lawyer, a nurse & two people with a truly terrible track record with houseplants end up running a flower farm on Old Mission Peninsula? Honestly, we followed a feeling.

After Levi was born, we knew it was time to come home to Michigan. Ann Arbor brought us closer to family, but it wasn’t until a quick trip Up North that something clicked. Seventy-two hours later, we were looking at Zillow listings and wondering whether we could completely uproot our lives.

Then we found the farm. We had no agricultural experience, no family history of farming & a whole lot to learn. But we also had curiosity, plenty of Google searches and a gut feeling that this was where we were supposed to be.

Since opening Moondance in 2023, we’ve made mistakes, learned more than we ever thought possible and discovered that Mark is pretty incredible at plant biology and field planning while Lindsay has a real knack for color, design & making flowers feel like magic.

Now we get to care for this little piece of Old Mission Peninsula, grow flowers less than a mile from Lake Michigan & send them into weddings and meaningful moments throughout Northern Michigan.

We still look around sometimes and think, “How did we even get here?” And then we feel very, very lucky that we get to share it with all of you. 💛

Ever wondered why we named our flower farm Moondance?

Moondance by Van Morrison was our first dance song at our wedding…. 13 years ago today! When we started this farm, it felt like the perfect name. Moondance is really the story of us: a marriage of our love for each other, our love of flowers, and our dream of building something meaningful together.

Now, we get to spend our days growing flowers for couples beginning their own stories. We’re so grateful we get to help make other couples’ wedding days just a little more magical. It’s a full-circle feeling that we’ll never take for granted.

Now you know why the name Moondance will always mean so much to us 🌙 💃
