Hilbert's Honey Co. Hilbert’s Honey Co. is a 5th generation cut comb honey producer in Traverse City, Michigan 🍯🐝 The family business began in 1887 by James Hilbert Sr.

in Leelanau County near Traverse City to encourage the pollination of his fruit farms. Over the years, the passion of beekeeping was passed on through each generation and has grown into a major bee hub with over 10,000 beehives. In addition to selling honey products Hilbert's Honey Co. helps local farmers pollinate their crops of by providing bees to their farm.

A honey bee may visit thousands of flowers in a single day, collecting nectar and pollen before making her way back to the hive. And somehow, among all those flowers and all that flying, she knows exactly how to find her way home.

Inside the hive, every bee has a job, and together they keep the colony fed, growing and thriving. It’s pretty incredible what’s happening inside these boxes on any given day.

Around here, we get a front-row seat to it—and after five generations of beekeeping, we’re still fascinated by these hardworking little pollinators.

Did you know we make our own beeswax candles right here at Hilbert’s Honey? 🐝

Beeswax is pretty special. It’s naturally made by honey bees to build the comb inside the hive, and once that wax makes its way to us, we can give it a whole new purpose.

Beeswax candles burn slowly and cleanly, with a warm, beautiful glow and a subtle, naturally sweet honey scent. No heavy added fragrance needed—the bees already did the work.

From simple tapers to hand-poured candles and honeycomb designs, it’s another way we’re able to use and appreciate what comes from the hive.

The life of a beekeeper. 🐝

It’s easy to think about beekeeping in terms of the honey we harvest, but there’s a whole lot more to it than that.

Every season brings something different — checking hives, watching the weather, keeping colonies healthy, moving bees, raising queens and making sure they have what they need to thrive.

At Hilbert’s, generations of our family have built their lives around caring for bees. Since 1887, they’ve taken care of us, and we’ve done our best to return the favor.

It’s more than honey.
