Our garden is producing enough vegetables to sell to friends and neighbors this year! We have a WWOOFER staying with us this summer who helps with garden and animals. What a great experience it is.

Opportunity for Co-creative Farm Management

The Boone Farm is a 45-acre homestead, 4 miles SW of Traverse City, with wetlands, hardwood forest, pines, and pastureland with lake access. Current land management projects include:

A mating pair of Idaho Pasture Pigs that breed twice a year.
Permaculture high intensity vegetable garden utilizing Hügelkultur raised beds.
Two roosters and anywhere from 50 to 75 laying hens.
Utilizing a sawmill for downed trees during storms as well as
maintaining a centennial working barn.
General property management: road clearing-, tree stand- and invasive species mgmt.

Our mission as farmers is to generate ethically and sustainably raised food for our community. We enjoy being the neighborhood stop for eggs, fresh vegetables, and a reliable source for high quality pork. We are seeking a farmer who is interested in participating in and growing this mission.

We are looking for somebody who has:

Experience in gardening and animal husbandry.
A community-oriented mindset.
The ability and desire to work independently.

We have a 786 sq.ft. 2-bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment available on the property for an additional cost (open to discussion.) As part of the Boone Farm team, you will have all of the vegetables, eggs, and meat necessary to live off of the land year-round.

Please contact Irene at [email protected] for more information.

After a bit of fuss after their birth, Tamale has settled quite nicely into the pace of mothering 5 piglets. In just 3 weeks we have had the joy of watching these shakey-legged squeakers grow into sturdy little hogs! 🐷 We know now that there are 3 males and 2 females in the litter. Their rambunctious energy is so contagious! When they aren't napping, they are zooming around their protected enclosure.
Swipe to see how small they used to be!

It is with great joy and celebration that we introduce our 5 healthy piglets on the farm. Last Sunday evening we noticed Hot Tamale acting a bit restless, so we set up a sleeping area for ourselves in the barn! Around 2:30am the very first piglet could be heard squeaking in the straw bedding. Tamale labored through the morning with Irene by her side. All piglets are healthy, and Tamale is recovering just fine. We could not be more pleased with her hard work!
All babies will be staying with mom on the Boone Farm! We are looking forward to sharing their growth with you all.
