TC Beer Guy is a page dedicated to sharing beer tasting notes, info and discussion about all things beer. I will post new beers, on location tastings and other information to help you navigate the Northern Michigan beer landscape. In addition I intend on being an informational source for questions in the beer community, such as 'Why can't I find Dogfish Head beer anywhere?' or 'Who has the best tap selection in town?' just to name a few common inquiries.

Stone 10th Anniversary Ruination IPA: So fragrant that you can smell the hops when you first crack the bottle! Pine, tangerine and cut grass notes blast your nose while in admiration of a fluffy, cakey head. Sweet malt quickly washed away by aggressive hops melding together to create white peach and fresh herbal flavors leaving behind a mouthwatering bitterness. The finish leaves hop residue that sticks to your mouth, mmm... Lucky to have tried this one! 95 points

Finch's Beer Co. Threadless IPA: loving the cans this year! A great mix of citrus and pine on the nose with a hazy orange glow in the pint. A nice textural mouthfeel with tight bubbles delivering a focused bitterness amongst a sweet marmalade malt backbone. Finishes with good balance and quite refreshing with it's 6% ABV. A good start to American Craft Beer Week! 90 points

Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale: this beer is bringing me out of retirement!! A Double Black IPA with big roasted cocoa and herbal hops on the nose. A textural voyage on the tongue with lively carbonation and a creamy body that carries chocolate, espresso and earth through the palate that engages a hearty bitterness followthrough. Bitterness lightly lingers as the ABV (8.7%) makes it's presence known on the finish. The balance of body, hops and malt is truly one of a kind in this brew. one of the best beers I've had in a LONG time. I'm back baby!!!! 97 points

Short's Raisin Apollo Double IPA: Bright bronze color and a tight frothy head. Pungent pine and resin aroma with notes of burnt caramel. A battle between bitter and sweet is engaged on the palate with the golden raisins fighting to tame the ferocious high alpha hops. Finishes freakishly balanced. Another winner from the boys in Bellaire. 94 points
