Ingredients:
1 yellow onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
3 medium cloves garlic, minced
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. hot Italian sausage
1 tsp sea salt
2 tbsp. cumin
1 tbsp. smoked paprika
2 tbsp. oregano
1 tsp black pepper
3 tbsp. Maseca (corn masa flour)
1 (15 oz.) jar Natural Northern Foods Original Corn Salsa
2 (15 oz.) cans Bush’s Black Beans (chili blend - mild)
2 (28 oz.) cans fire-roasted crushed tomatoes
32 oz. beef bone broth
6 oz. tomato paste
1 tbsp. espresso powder
2 tbsp. Natural Northern Foods Chipotle Bourbon Hot Sauce
5 drops liquid smoke
Preparation Steps:
1. Dice the yellow onion and green pepper, and mince the garlic.
2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, over medium heat, add the ground beef and hot Italian sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
3. Add the diced onion, green pepper, and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
4. Stir in the sea salt, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the spices to become fragrant.
5. Sprinkle the Maseca (corn masa flour) over the cooked meat and vegetable mixture. Stir well to combine, allowing it to absorb any excess grease and enhance the flavor.
6. Pour in the fire-roasted crushed tomatoes, beef bone broth, and tomato paste. Stir to combine.
7. Add the Natural Northern Foods Original Corn Salsa and the Bush’s Black Beans (with their liquid). Stir everything together until well combined.
8. Add the espresso powder, chipotle bourbon hot sauce, and liquid smoke. Stir well to incorporate all the flavors.
9. Bring the chili to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together and the chili to thicken.
10. Taste the chili and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You can add more salt, pepper, or hot sauce according to your preference.
