Hello MabelHaven friends,
We have a bit of a surplus! This is most likely a temporary windfall as Birdie adjusts to life without a calf at her side.
If you’ve purchased from us before and have jars ready to swap, we are offering extra milk on a first-come, first-served basis.
We are unfortunately not accepting brand new customers at this time.

Welcome to the farm, RosiePosie (my little girls insisted on her name). 💕

It feels like forever since I’ve milked a cow, and i have missed it…or at I east parts of it. Birdie is busy with a bun in the oven—in other words, she’s a freeloading pasture princess for now. In the mean time, I finally got the guts to start making sourdough bread. I’m hooked! Now the question: can I keep ANOTHER thing alive even after Birdie is milking again? Time will tell. Birdie’s official due date is May 27. But we are hoping for a heifer (since we stacked the deck) which often means an early calving. With a little luck we’ll be ready to open again by Memorial Day. I’ll definitely post updates here. —Sarah Lund

Hello, good friends! MabelHaven Homestead is taking a break. It breaks my heart to say it out loud. We’ve sold down to one milking cow (hardest decision ever because I LOVE my cows 💔) and until she freshens again in May, we won’t have enough milk to accommodate all the wonderful customers we’ve met over the last 18 months. Those have been hard months with lots of learning curves and lots of change. As some of you know, we lost my Mom in May and it rocked my world in a way I couldn’t possibly have prepared for. It made me realize that the stress of selling milk has pulled me away from the only thing that matters—my husband and babies. I need to get back to when milking was my pleasure and passion, and not a stress. We sincerely appreciate your trust, support, and patience, and we hope you understand. If you need a new source for Raw Milk, I highly recommend Emily Hancock with Hancock Homestead in Bothwell, Harmony Homestead in Corrine, Renee Robison in Tremonton, or Melinda Gilbert in Willard. If you’re finterested in raw goat milk, check out Bailey with Butterfield’s Homestead. I have deep respect for all of them and the hard work they do. If you’re ready and able to take the plunge and get your own family cow, I will be your biggest cheerleader and will offer every help I can. Keep following for if/when we start offering our milk again—probably around Memorial Day. Much love 😘

Sarah

“Life is made up of meetings and partings.” We experienced one of each this month. Over the last several weeks, Mabel’s health started to decline. We made th very hard decision to retire her. She was a part of nearly every day of the last 10 years. I raised her from a week old calf, and milked her by hand for 7 years. It was a day I knew would eventually come, but it came much sooner and hit way harder than I ever expected.

On a brighter note, HolliJo had a beautiful little painted heifer—exactly what I’d been hoping for—on August 25. She’s 1/4 Jersey, 1/4 Holstein, and 1/2 Norwegian Red. The little lady needs a name, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to share! On the top of the list thus far: Freya, Ingrid, and Bodil.

For those of you who have been patiently waiting for our milk sales to tick up again—we’re mere days away from HolliJo putting us back at full production. Thanks for your patience!

This little chicken farmer has been doing a great job tending our ladies and they are HAPPY! So happy that even our large family can’t keep up with their production. If you need eggs, bring your own carton. $3/dozen while supplies last. These were laid in the last 2-3 days, and we’ll keep them cycled out so you’ll know they are the freshest.
