I'm a Los Angeles-based hand spinner and homesick farm girl who manages small-batch wool processing and sales for Eph Jensen Livestock, my family's sheep ranch near Bear River City in Northern Utah. A 3rd-generation family sheep operation, Eph Jensen Livestock raises and pastures approximately 2,200 Panama/Panama-cross sheep on native ranges in Northern Utah. ens also maintain a small flock of purebred Lincoln sheep (with which we're a registered fiber provider with the Livestock Conservancy's Shave 'Em to Save 'Em program). Unlike the main Panama herd which migrates between summer and winter ranges, the Lincolns lead lives closer to home, living year-round in pastures near the family homestead. Eph Jensen Livestock is a family owned and operated range sheep outfit based in Northern Utah. Eph Jensen (1994-1987) began herding sheep for a cousin after serving in WWI. He started purchasing land for his own sheep operation in 1928, and by 1945 was running his own herd of 1,200 ewes. Eph Jensen Livestock today pastures 2,200 Panama/Panama cross sheep on native ranges in Box Elder, Cache, Weber, Wasatch, and Duchesne Counties. Most notably, the Jensens are one of the few sheep outfits that still trails their ewes home each fall via a dedicated right of way on a historic sheep trail that runs down Box Elder Canyon and through Brigham City, Utah. This 2-day, 23 mile migration takes place every fall in October, always drawing crowds of spectators along the route.
