Sandy Bluff Farm

Sandy Bluff Farm We are a small family farm located on the outskirts of the Portland Metro area. Sandy Bluff Farm was established in 2015. That means... animals and pasture!

We are currently reclaiming the land from eight years of nursery stock operations. We currently raise chickens, ducks, geese, goats and Soay sheep. We sell young laying hens, rent chickens by the season, and are starting our first season of vegetable production. We also have some nursery stock for sale that we inherited. It has been one hell of a year. Today my kids are with their dad, and with all of the ambivalence that thanksgiving inspires... I have a moment to reflect. I haven't publicly acknowledged the pain and loss that came with leaving the farm. Some days it still sneaks up and washes over me, and i suspect that will always be true. But here i sit by the fire in my cozy cabin, lucky in so many ways. I get to work with a team of people I admire, without exception. My colleagues are smart and principled, and they work so hard. Some days we get to help people in big, important ways, and there is never a day that I wonder if my job matters. I am so fortunate that, after 50 years of an unorthodox life, I get to have that. My adolescent children took this major move so well, and their dad schlepped back up to Alaska to peacefully separate from me while keeping them close to both of their parents. And my own parents are making a second home here in Fairbanks. All this while weathering the isolation and uncertainty of COVID-19. Today I am unspeakably grateful, and I send my love and gratitude out into the world to all of the friends and family that i am so fortunate to have had in my life. Wishing you peace on this (I hope) day of reflection.
