NEW MELLE FOOD CO-OP STANDARD OF GROWERS
The farmers that grow the food sold in our store are local and work to regenerate their landscape. It is most important that co-op partners who raise food are connected to their practice and enjoy doing it. Those who love what they do grow the food that nourishes the mind, body, and spirit. It is these family farms that work together that the New Melle Food Co-op prioritizes.
Families that grow food alongside each other have so much more to offer than their high-quality
goods. They have generational experience of providing for and supporting the community. These
are the farmers and the legacy that we proudly stand behind.
Farmers must use regenerative farming practices to be able to sell their goods at the coop. The use of inorganic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides are not used by our growers. They use holistic solutions and integrated pest management to ensure the strongest, healthiest, and most nutritious food they can raise. These farmers understand the sacredness of soil and steward it by fertilizing with natural sources, keeping our native topsoils in place. Our farmers also understand the dire importance of water and have
management practices in place to slow, spread and sink their water, returning their excess back to the water table.
Farming and growing food is a true form of art. No two artists will ever paint the same exact painting and no two farmers will manage their land the same way. What is important to the New Melle Food Co-op is that the farmers we partner with regenerate their landscape and create the most abundance they can.
