Introducing - The Quackin' Wagon.

A month ago this was just an idea in my head that I was trying to figure out how to build (I couldn't find any plans that had everything I wanted).

-It had to be light enough to be mobile so we can move it once a week- that's why it's built out of 1x4s instead of 2x4s.

-It had to be strong enough to hold snow during the winter. It's at least strong enough to hold me crawling on top of the peak to attach the smaller rafters.

-I needed easy access to get inside in case they lay eggs outside of the nest box (as ducks love to do).

-It needed to be as predator proof as possible.

-Finally, it had to be replicable and nice to look at as I plan on building mobile coops this winter to sell in the spring.

All of the exterior wood- the sides, fascia, and nest box are made from a tree we took down on our property a few years ago.

Huuuge amount of eggs this week now that this year's hens are in full production! Eggs this week will be $4/dozen to help us move them all.

Now that our younger hens are producing more, we will be selling our 18 month old hens. If you or anyone you know would be interested, they are $15 each. We have barred rocks, black s*x links, white leghorns, silver laced wyandottes, ameraucanas, and isa browns.

Send us a message or email at [email protected] if interested!

The ducks still don't know to go inside each night, but at least they're much easier to herd than chickens.

Our last round of pasture raised chicken is now available for preorder!

Our chickens are raised on pasture moving everyday, and are twice a day in their final 2 weeks to give them clean grass to sleep on, and lots of bugs and plants to eat.

To order yours, email us at [email protected] and tell us how many you'd like, and if you prefer small or large. They typically average 5lbs. They are $4.50/lb, or $4.25/lb when you order 4 or more! They will be available for pickup on farm Sunday September 10 from 9am-12pm.

How we cook a whole chicken:

In the oven- preheat oven to 400. Brush melted butter and olive oil onto the chicken and season with salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, and a little garlic powder. Stuff with orange or lemon, plus onion and garlic. Add butter and onions in a cast iron skillet or regular pan if you don't have one. Add the chicken to the pan and plan to cook for 75 to 90 minutes depending on the size, but start checking the temperature at 50 minutes and every 10 minutes after. Cook to a temperature of 165.

Instant pot- super simple. Prep the chicken the same way, but add 1 cup of broth to the instant pot and cook on high pressure for 6 minutes per lb if thawed, 10 minutes per lb if frozen and allow the pressure to naturally release. If you like crispy skin, place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes.

We love trying new recipes so feel free to send us yours!
