Mellifera Farm

Mellifera Farm The farm is named for Honey Bees, "Apis Mellifera," where it all begins Our queen bees are bred and selected for local Pacific Northwest conditions.

Set on rolling forest, grassland and shaded draws near Troy, Idaho, Mellifera Farm was homesteaded in the late 1800's and maintained as a diverse family farm for much of the next century. Today, the farm is a special place, inspired by art and science, and dedicated to the sustainable production of specialty cut flowers, queen bees, beeswax, and Icelandic/Shetland sheep for meat and fiber. Sustainably grown cut flowers are produced on the farm as Melliflora.

There’s a patch of stinging nettles behind the machine sheds. Every year I have an ambition to harvest some to make nettle soup. And every year spring gets too busy and I miss the window. I finally made it a priority and it was so worth it. Made enough to freeze and I’m committed t making these gorgeous greens an annual priority

I leaned hard on these precious yellow peonies this wedding season, so there are hardly any left. I’ll be bringing some bouquets to the Moscow Farmers Market on Saturday. So if you wait all year for these very special blooms, come early because they always sell out fast

Local Killdeers have figured out that the fenced in flower farm is a great place to nest. This one has four eggs in the dahlia patch and she was not too happy with me weeding out there.

So much love and joy. Congratulations Allison and Corey!

I have 2 new beds of peonies that I e been babying for a few years. This is the first year I’ve let any bloom at all. I still cut off 2/3 of the buds but I let a few bloom and it’s such a thrill to finally see them . This one’s stunner! I’ll be back at market with peonies in June so you can have some for yourself
