Summing up a week with friends and family in the Inside Passage of Alaska in one phrase: Immersion in Nature.

From our UTV adventure in Ketchikan, breeching whales and soaring bald eagles, kayaking on Icy Straight Point, to hiking & river rafting in the Chilkaut Rainforest and Skagway Taiya River, natural beauty and wildlife surrounded us.

Some highlights included :
—Playing liars dice, cards, word games, mahjong and backgammon on scenic cruising days with the Pacific Ocean and velvety green mountains as our backdrop.

—When the Captain ventured out of the bridge to sing, dance, and serve chilled vodka shots in the sun.

—Exploring old gold rush towns like Skagway and Valdez in search of the best fresh crab, spicy shrimp, and microbrews.

—Learning about the beautiful Alaskan marine life and glaciers.

—The spontaneity of our kids performing at karaoke night and winning prizes at trivia night.

—The love and warmth and laughter that expands when family members become friends, and friends grow into family. 🩷💚💙

We love when our cousins from other states visit. Shout out to Matt and Carmen from Nashville and their girls. Loved making Nutella-filled puff pancakes with you, checking out the Golden Gate Bridge and the Discovery Museum, and spending time with family. Love you all!

It’s walking distance from Tahoe Tavern and Tahoe Shores — a blessing for friends like Mary Kircher and Matt Kircher who hosted pre-dinner cocktails at the lake opening weekend.

Chefs & owners Mark and Alison Sullivan greet every guest, and it’s clear that all their team members are truly enjoying what they do. Shout out to Mark’s Aunt Nina from NY who charmed our table!

Don’t miss the salted brioche, simple green salad with Alpine honey vinaigrette, creamy golden potatoes, and all of the pastas. We also loved the inventive cocktail list—my favorite was the Black Trombone with tequila, pisco, nectarines, and lime.

There’s a reason that Food & Wine included Savoie on their list of the hottest restaurant openings in the US of 2026, and it’s clear how much time, talent and love Mark and Alison poured into reviving the former Pfeifer House.

What a gift to those of us who spend time in Lake Tahoe!

Happy Memorial Day with a shout out to my Grandfather Tom James, and all the committed men and women who have served our country and are serving today.

Grandpa served in the US Navy and commanded a ship in southern France In 1944. He lived until age 101 and only began sharing his war stories when my cousins and my kids took him fishing or studied WW2 in school.

An inspiration and mentor to so many!

What an honor it was to move you into your Columbia University dorm four years ago, and experience you graduate today with a BS in Astrophysics!

You stretched and challenged yourself academically, made a huge group of dynamic friends, got to know every subway line, restaurant and museum in New York City, and stayed connected to your adoring family along the way.

I am happy for you, and most importantly, know your Mom iswatching from above with tremendous love and pride!
