Fun Fact:

Did you know cows have four chambers to their stomach?
These include (in order of which feed passes through them)-

Rumen: largest and holds around 25 gallons of content, this compartment is for storage and fermentation

Reticulum: Located close to the heart, this is where heavy feeds or metal objects consumed will end up causing “hardware disease”

Omasum: this can only hold about 2 gallons and is made of leaf-like material much like pages in a book, this absorbs water and acts as a filter

Abomasum: is the “true Stomach” which can hold about 7 gallons and functions much like the human stomach breaking down the feed with enzymes before sending it to the small intestine

Therefore cattle are Ruminants along with animals such as sheep, goats, deer, elephants, giraffes and antelope
