My sweet girl, Daisy. 😍

Daisy came to us last October from a breeder who was looking to downsize their group. She was bred to an off-site registered IPP boar. On Christmas Eve, she gave birth to 7 piglets (losing one the day after). Her and her remaining 6 piglets have since been exploring, learning and growing! This is our first piglet litter, so we've been learning right along with them. Over the last 5 months, each of them has earned their name, and even though I know that will make sending them off to camp in August more emotionaI, I couldn't imagine doing this any other way. 🥰

I will never NOT be fascinated by making stock. You can take vegetable scraps, an animal carcass (neither are things I'd eat on their own obviously) and water and all of a sudden it's soup? Idk, seems like potion making to me. 🤯

This right here is why we take on the heartbreak of losing an animal that we loved so much. Because when you love them, they absolutely understand that love and might even love you back before their days are done. Just when you start questioning whether you "farm correctly" or not, 6 piglets come running up for scritches and nose kisses and suddenly (even if just for a moment) nothing else matters. ❤️‍🩹❤️

Sometimes you can put every ounce of energy and modern veterinary medicine into the creatures we love (even when we can't love ourselves)... And it just isn't enough. Unfortunately, our Squeak was too sick even finding a wonderful vet who did everything she could. 💔💔

Never have I ever worn a pair of shoes out this dramatically, in less than 18 months. Merrell has amazing quality and comfortable shoes. I went back for the same pair the other day, and found the same exact shoe just a different color.

I'm not sure there is anything more whimsical than piglet playtime. Except perhaps the fact that an animal, who could eat me for dinner without much effort, trusts us 100% with her babies. I have accomplished a great deal of things in my life, but gaining the trust of a 500lb creature? I'll take being "just a farmer" any day if that's the reward.
