Snowbird Pasties (PAST-eez) A pasty is a portable meal pie. It contains a variety of meats and vegetables covered in a flaky pie crust. They originate from the mining towns of Cornwall, England. When the miner’s moved to the United States to help in the copper mines, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (U.P.), they brought the pasties along. I am from the U.P. and when I moved to Tucson I started making pasties for the “snowbirds” from the Upper Midwest who couldn’t wait to get back to get their pasty fix. That’s how the name “Snowbird Pasties” came to be, however I am here year round providing pasties to people in and around Tucson. I make pasties out of a licensed commercial kitchen in Tucson and I sell them at Farmer's Markets and special events. I also provide a delivery service for people who call in orders.
