🐐 Twins, twins, and more twins at Rustwind Ranch! 🐐

We’d like to introduce you to our latest sets of twins born here on the ranch!

First up are Lily & Ollie’s babies — Birria & Violet! 💜

Birria is our handsome little boy, and… well, you can probably guess where his name came from. 😂🌮 We know a Boer-cross wether isn’t necessarily what you’d expect to take the fair by storm, but LOOK at this boy at only two weeks old! 👀 He is already making us very curious to see how he grows out.

His sister Violet is just as cute, although apparently she has decided that standing still long enough for a decent picture is completely beneath her. 😂

Our second set of twins comes from Khaleesi & Billy, who gave us two beautiful little girls: Silver Steel and Midnight Steel. 🩶🖤

Their parents weren’t born here on the ranch, so their names don’t exactly fit our new naming themes — but the babies are officially getting us on track! We’ve decided our Nigerians are sticking with a metal-themed naming tradition, and these two girls fit it perfectly.

Now we’re down to ONE last doe to kid this year — Alice! 👀

Alice gave us triplets with her first freshening, and somehow she looks even BIGGER this time around. 😳 So we are very interested to see what she has hiding in there!

Hopefully by the end of the week, we’ll have one last round of baby-goat introductions to make. 🐐🐐🐐…🐐? 😂

Never a dull moment during kidding season at Rustwind Ranch! 🤎

If you’ve ever wondered how animals get their names around Rustwind Ranch… there’s actually a method to the madness. 😂

Over the years, different species and breeds have developed their own naming themes, and now we’re officially committing to them!

🐐 Nigerian Dwarf Goats — Metals
Think Copper, Steel, Silver and everything metallic.

🌌 Nubian Goats — Other Worlds
Fantasy, sci-fi, mythology and characters from other worlds—with Star Wars off limits because another group already claimed it!

🌸 Boer Goats — Wildflowers & Botanicals
Our Lily started this one without even knowing it. 🌿

🐇 Mini Rex — The Old West
Cowboys, outlaws, legends and everything Wild West.

🌟 New Zealand Rabbits — Star Wars
This is where the galaxy far, far away lives at Rustwind Ranch.

🧛 Standard Rex — Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles
Because apparently our Standard Rex needed to be the dramatic ones. 😂

🐖 Pigs — Hip-Hop Stars
Because what else would you name a pig? 🎤

🏀 Roosters — Basketball Stars
Including our newest tiny gentleman, Muggsy, named after the shortest player in NBA history.

🎬 Hens — Kids’ Movie Characters
Which recently gave us two little Old English ladies named Raven & Starfire.

🐕 Dogs — Pop Culture Icons
With individual litters getting their own mini themes, so we’ll never run out of possibilities.

And speaking of naming themes…

There have been some VERY tiny new arrivals at Rustwind Ranch recently. 👀🐐

A few of these naming categories have officially gotten some new members, and we can’t wait to introduce them.

Any guesses which themes we’ve been pulling names from this week? 😏

A QUICK REMINDER FROM RUSTWIND RANCH

We love that so many of you support our ranch, purchase eggs and animals from us, and are interested in coming out to visit. But we need to clarify something important:

Rustwind Ranch is a working farm, but it is also our family’s HOME.

We do not have a public office or storefront on the property. Please do not enter the property, approach the house, or come onto the ranch without speaking with someone first and arranging a time.

Today, someone unexpectedly walked in while I was in a state of undress because they believed our home was an office. 😳 Needless to say, that was an uncomfortable surprise for everyone involved!

If you’re picking up eggs, purchasing an animal, dropping something off, or hoping to visit the ranch, we’re happy to coordinate with you—just call or text first and wait for confirmation before coming onto the property.

We absolutely appreciate everyone who supports Rustwind Ranch. We just need our customers and visitors to remember that when business hours are over—or when we haven’t arranged a visit—this is still where our family lives.

Thank you for respecting our home, our family, and our privacy. ❤️

Sometimes your body is just ✨uncooperative✨ with farm life. 😂

This morning, my boss at the farm school reached out and asked if I could fill in for a few hours today. No problem! I started rushing through morning chores so I could get everything done and head out.

First, a duck somehow managed to get P**P IN MY HAIR. 💩🦆 So obviously, chores had to pause for an emergency shower.

While I was trying to get everything finished, my special-needs daughter was having a rough morning and getting herself into some trouble, so chores paused again while I went inside to hang out with her and get things settled.

Finally, I was wrapping everything up and was literally just about ready to get on the road…

AND I GOT STUNG BY AN ANT. 🐜🤦‍♀️

Not just any ant. One of those nasty, big black, stinging ants that are EVERYWHERE in Arizona. Somehow, I have successfully avoided being stung by one for the last SIX YEARS because the last time it happened, I ended up in the ER.

So apparently the universe has decided I am NOT going anywhere today. 😂

Sometimes farm life just kicks your butt, and today is apparently one of those days.

Assuming my body decides not to be overly dramatic about this ant sting, it is looking a little better after ice 2 Zyrtec and my daily Celebrex.

I guess this afternoon’s farm activity has officially been decided:

🔥 FIND THE ANTHILLS.
🔥 TREAT THE ANTHILLS.
🔥 DECLARE WAR ON THE ANTHILLS.

Because they have officially made this personal. 😂🐜

🐐✨ We’re excited to introduce the newest boys at Rustwind Ranch! ✨🐐

Meet our two new registered bucklings:

🤎 Stenman’s Jake Sully — our handsome Nubian buckling
👑 Bella Luna Hays Copper King — our little Nigerian Dwarf buckling

These two boys represent something we’ve been working toward for a while—the beginning of our registered Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf herds here at Rustwind Ranch!

We’re incredibly excited to watch Jake Sully and Copper King mature and eventually see what they produce for us. Our goal is to continue building our herd thoughtfully, bringing in quality registered genetics while developing goats we’re proud to raise and offer to others.

It feels pretty special to finally be taking this step. ❤️

Here’s to new beginnings, future kids, and the next chapter for Rustwind Ranch! 🐐🌵

🌵 Things are growing and evolving here at Rustwind Ranch! 🐐🦆🪿🐇

We’ve been making some exciting changes around the ranch, refining our breeding programs, adding new animals, and working toward some pretty big things for the future.

🪿 We’ve added Sebastopol geese! These gorgeous, curly-feathered birds have been on our wish list for a long time, and we’re so excited to finally have them here.

🐐 Our goat program is evolving. We’re gradually downsizing our unregistered goat stock as we work toward building registered Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian herds. We’ve already added a registered Nubian buck and registered Nigerian Dwarf buck to help move that goal forward.

We’ve also been doing more goat stud contracts with some of our unregistered bucks, which has been another great way for our boys to contribute to local herds while we transition our own program.

🦆 We’ve streamlined our duck flock and decided to focus on three breeds we really enjoy: Muscovy, Runner, and Cayuga ducks.

🥚🐣 We’re also expanding what we offer from the ranch! We’re beginning to offer balut, while continuing to offer quail and chicks.

🐇 Our rabbits have been keeping us busy, too! We’ve been selling out of our bunnies, and we’re so thankful for everyone who has given one of our rabbits a home. We expect to have more Mini Rex and New Zealand bunnies available in December, and we’re especially excited that in the new year we’ll begin offering offspring from our Standard Rex program!

And that’s definitely not everything. 👀

We have some BIG partnerships in the works that we are incredibly excited about. We aren’t quite ready to share all the details yet, but they’ll open up a whole new chapter for the ranch and the services we can offer our community.

It feels like Rustwind Ranch is finding its direction more and more every year. We’re learning, growing, refining what we do, and we can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes us. ❤️🌵

Thank you to everyone who follows along, supports our ranch, buys from us, recommends us, and cheers us on. There’s a lot more coming!

🥚 BALUT AVAILABLE! 🦆

Looking to try something traditional, unique, and packed with history? We’re offering balut, a fertilized duck egg that has been incubated so the embryo begins to develop before the egg is cooked and eaten.

🌏 A little history & culture:
Balut has been enjoyed for generations throughout Southeast Asia and is especially associated with the Philippines, where it is a beloved street food and an important part of Filipino food culture. It is traditionally eaten warm, often with a little salt or vinegar, and is enjoyed both as an everyday snack and as a food shared with friends and family.

💪 Nutrition:
Because balut contains both the egg and developing embryo, it provides protein, fat, iron, phosphorus, and other vitamins and minerals. Like other eggs, it can be a nutrient-dense food, although it shouldn’t be treated as a cure or miracle health food.

🦆 Farm-raised duck balut
🥚 Fresh, locally produced
🌾 A chance to enjoy a traditional food with deep cultural roots

Whether balut is something you grew up eating or something you’ve always wanted to try, send us a message for availability and pricing!
