Digging onions this morning. I harvested all the Granex onions, and all the Texas Early Whites. The granex are the sweet Vidalia onions, just not grown in Vidalia, Georgia but in Tucumcari, NM! Kinda like Hatch Chiles grown in Tucumcari, same varieties, taste is better. These are available at the farm now or will be available at the farmers market starting July 11. Hope to have a few red onions harvested by then also. Soon we will have sweet yellow candy onions and Super Star white onions as they are getting close to harvest.

I wanted to give an update on what's been going on here at the farm. Mostly work and a few health challenges. We've been planting, transplanting, hoeing, harvesting, pulling weeds, and a lot of watering. The crops are looking pretty good for the most part. No grasshoppers which is a huge blessing to us. The chile looks good and is blooming. We planted a bit more chile than was originally planned so we will have a bit for sale if things work like they should. It will only be available at the farm, nothing at the farmers market. And supply will be very limited. The cucumbers 🥒 are blooming too although theirs is mostly for show at the moment. We harvested the green onions as green onions, then the rest bulbed up into small white onions which have since been harvested for sale at the farmers market. We will be harvesting big bulb onions the next couple of months as they become ready. The large Texas whites will be ready very soon. The Vidalias are getting harvested a few at a time now. The candys will be ready very soon. We harvested garlic on Saturday which was a large disappointment as the bulbs were not up to par size wise. I lost most of my seed garlic last year so I had purchased some out of California which didn't size up well. So I guess it's back to saving our own selected bulbs for the next few years to get back to where we were. It's kind of a bummer because I've been selecting my garlic seed for over 20 years for size and quality. Also I had moved the garlic patch to another smaller location where the soil wasn't as fertile so I've got lots of soil rejuvenation to do. Oh, such is farming... we harvested one container of red potatoes yesterday, these are just for our use, i included a picture. thanks to everyone for all your support and encouragement. We are looking forward to a good year, God willing.

Just a quick update... we're watering onions, cabbages, cauliflower, broccoli, rutabagas, a few carrots 🥕, beets, and chard. The chard is ready, if you need some greens, give us a shout. The rutabagas are also ready if you're wanting to try one of those. They're really quite tasty. It's finally feeling like it's time to get some transplants in the ground.
We've been busy transplanting chile and tomatoes into 6packs for transplanting into the garden. They are still small but growing fast. The frost last week was pretty cold here, 28 degrees inside the greenhouse. A few potatoes outside turned black but will come back fine. Everything else is fine.

We've been busy with ground preparations and planting onions. We lack about 1200 being done. Here are some pictures of onions planted under and around our new soon to be cucumber arch. Yes, we're going vertical with cucumbers. We planted vertical in the greenhouse last summer and I was pleased with the concept so we've moved outside to escape the heat buildup inside. We're hoping that this will help increase yield and facilitate harvesting. The onions should about be mature before the cucumbers shade them too much and they are companion plants to boot! Anyway, we're kinda excited to see how this will work. We're hoping for a crop failure on our grasshopper population. Part of these onions will be harvested for green onions so they should be ready about the last week in April or the first week in May. We should have a good supply of them into the end of May. Then the bulb onions will start being harvested late June, God willing. In the meantime we will be hoping for death to grasshoppers. We value each and every one of you and thank you for your support.
I've shared some of our life outside the garden also. Happy Birthday to my uncle Ray, he was 85 yesterday and still going strong. We love him dearly, he's the last of the previous generations in my family.

Hello, a few words this evening. Prayers going up for the fire victims in NM,Ok,TX, and Kansas. What a tragedy! It seems we're seeing more and more of this sort of natural disasters. We pray for safety of the workers fighting the fires also. We have family who selflessly spend a large part of their time serving in volunteer fire departments in Maljamar NM, Buffalo Ok, and Hardesty Ok. Countless others also serve and we thank them all. Just a little update on what's been happening here at the farm in Tucumcari. We have a bit of cabbage just about ready, and also some really nice Romaine lettuce that is ready as we speak. We have carrots 🥕 planted(not ready), beets and a few turnips which I mainly planted for greens which are ready. I had a batch of them last night. I even planted some rutabagas which I have no idea what they taste like as I've never met one on my plate! These will be ready later in the spring. They are a relative of turnips and are widely grown in the upper midwest. We shall see...These are all in the greenhouse. In the meantime, I've been getting ground ready outside the greenhouse for onions, a small amount of chile, jalapenos for sure, pole beans, tomatoes, okra, and of course everyone's favorite cucumbers! We're hoping for a crop failure in the grasshopper crop and planting all this outside in faith. I've been building a new bed for cauliflower and broccoli 🥦 in the greenhouse and it's ready now. Our other beds are spread with compost and woodchips and are ready to plant. We will have a small raised bed outside the store with herbs. We have got cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, onion and garlic chives, and geraniums started in trays inside with much more to be started in the next few days including chile, jalapenos, many herbs, tomatoes and much more.
