Farm To Vase By Rebecca

Farm hand meet and greet! Today is the clean up crew - the girls who work the hardest eating all the clippings from the garden. From left to right: Ethyl, Dotty, Beaula and Mae. These girls are all related - Dotty and Beaula are sisters and Mae and Ethyl are Beaula’s girls. They’re a hard working bunch who have very particular tastes and would much prefer to be breaking through fences and visiting their boyfriends and the neighbor’s. Give it time - they’ll figure out how to break out of their new pen…

Farm hand of the day is Penny! She is the newest hire on our farm and is charge of the vibes and not much else. In fact she causes more chaos than assistance most days, but she’s happy so there’s that. She loves trying to chase the cows and horses, dig holes and cause generalized destruction. But we love her attitude and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Meeting our farm hands this week! This is Hank. He’s retired from his real job (herding cows and keeping me safe from bulls) and is now living the casual life of flower farming. He loves sitting close enough to me to touch me at all times and making sure no frogs are in the yard. He’s a hard worker and loves cheese.

Just because it’s 100F doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking of spring! Today we moved our perennials to their permanent home and removed all of the irrigation lines, tarp and weeds to get ready for planting the crimson clover for the winter. It’s hot. And we’re done for the day!
