Review #160
Pizza Time - 81st and Memorial
5.6
After great reviews seen on Piso's, I was like dang, I need to eat that. Then I did....smh. It fell below the expectations I had.
Let's start with the sauce. It had a came from a can taste. I've enjoyed pizza sauce that I knew came from a can, but this had....a distinct can flavor that wasn't good. Nothing special there. And the gel layer was not proper so it had a thick slimy texture beneath the cheese and sauce. The pepperoni didn't have a quality flavor either and not in good quantity. Had a cheapness to the flavor like pre sliced grocery store hormel pepperoni. The crust didn't seem properly risen, so it seemed lifeless, lacking flavor. The cheese was in an amount that wasn't desirable and again....had a cheap flavor. It was very hard to pick up a slice and not have the top come off due to overtopping the cheese and center loading. If it was good cheese, I'd say, yes please, overtop that, but it wasn't.
Overall, none of the flavors were really great and they did not work well together. Some basic pizza fundamentals were missing. Perhaps several beers in, it might seem better, but for a sober lunch, it was not great. I will say, it was better when I reheated the leftovers in a skillet. But, this isn't a reheat review. The score is middle of the road. It's a meh.
