Update! Update!
Dear Facebook friends and family,
I realize it’s been a while since we’ve been open. Both my husband and I work full-time jobs. His company demanded more of his skills, placing him on 12-hour shifts seven days a week from 3:00 am to 3:30 pm. Unfortunately, this left him with little time for anything else, including running our business.
Before he planned his retirement, he came up with another stream of income that would allow us to operate “Soul Food on Wheels” simultaneously. As with any new startup, it takes time to establish.
“Soul Food on Wheels” was generated out of pocket from our earned income—no loans, grants, or investors. We were working hard, and we’re finally starting to see more, and more profit.
That said, I encourage you to support small businesses. Remember that they were thriving long before larger corporations took over. Ma and Pa stores were everywhere back in the day, providing excellent service. The owners knew their customers by name and understood their tastes, preferences, and styles.
Just to name a few nostalgic spots: Mr. Couper’s fruit stand on Mohawk and Denver, The Martin’s gas station and repair shop on Pine and Peoria, Banfield’s grocery store with the meat market in the Apache circle, Wanda J – on N. Peoria next to McLain High School, Reese’s Barbeque, Latimer’s Barbeque, Wilson’s Barbeque, Sutues Barbeque, Pete’s Barbeque and who could forget the Ben Franklin mall, where Ma and Pa stores, Doctor, Dentist, Barber shop, Beauty shop and Pharmacy held a special place in our hearts, these are just a few. Not to limit.
Let’s continue to uplift and support these local businesses—they’re the backbone of our communities.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
See you soon !!!
