The Moment That Started the Grassroots Movement
It’s a valid question, and it all starts with Daniel Rose. Fresh out of high school and searching for a career, he took various classes at Tulsa Community College before settling on a career in nursing. Fascinated with how the natural systems in the body work and encouraged by the masses of people touting the job security of the field, he completed an associates degree, got into nursing school, and started working in the hospital. And he hated it.
He worked 12 hour shifts where he would go in before the sun came up and emerge from the florescent, sterile palace long after the sun had gone down. Every day he saw the same problems over and over: health issues that could have been managed or completely prevented by changes in diet and exercise.
Meanwhile, he was missing the outdoors and loving raising his small flock of sheep on the side. (Oh, did we not mention that Daniel was raising a flock of sheep during college as a hobby?) He even took a semester off his early years of TCC to do an internship on a sheep farm, but chose not to pursue farming because ‘no one can make a living in farming.’
Though a series of connections that could only be described as divinely inspired, Daniel was able to lease a piece of property just north of downtown in exchange for acting as the property manager for the 180 acres that needed to be cared for. Sorely neglected from the previous owners, Daniel began to bring the property back to life with regenerative farming techniques and intensive management of the lower 40 acres, learning everything from scratch as he went. About a year later, Maria Rose officially married into the operation and functions in the capacity of marketing decision-maker and self-proclaimed head of communications.
