Busy day on the farm processing a lot of poultry. We appreciated the assistance from friends and we enjoyed their company. Our 3rd time raising birds from chicks to processing day—this time we had several in the 7-9+ pound range in only 9 weeks. And, our kids have gotten more skilled with all the steps of the day’s work.

This is just part of the haul from our garden—our first time planting garlic, and we had a beautiful yield! This is something groundhogs and rabbits leave alone. We’ll plan to plant even more garlic this fall.

We’re ringing in the year of the tiger today on the farm. We’re looking forward to using our organic fresh eggs to make a traditional pineapple stuffed shortbread dessert baked pineapple cakes.
Later this month, we’ll use a bunch of egg whites to make strawberry macarons for Valentine’s Day.

We have many dozens of rainbow eggs available for your holiday baking needs!
These eggs are gathered daily by the youngest members of Hank’s Eden Farm—produced by happy, pastured hens who’ve been raised since day old. They’ve only been fed non-GMO, NO soy, organic feed to supplement their foraging.

It’s been a long wait with 3 different breeds of chicks in the brooder and multiple coops for the different ages of chicks. One batch of chicks was DOA after being misrouted. And, we’ve dealt with predators, in addition to our larger batch of broiler chicks raised to butcher. And here we are, FINALLY, 6 months later with rainbow pullet eggs. We love them. 😍
My little egg gatherers love looking for them not knowing what colors they’ll find in the coop.
What I love about these green and blue eggs is that they’re true blue and olive green meaning the color won’t rub off to brown underneath.
The dark chocolate brown from the rustic ramblers was our economical version of the black copper maran breed.
Meanwhile, the farmer is finishing up the winter chicken coop which will keep the birds protected from harsh weather year-round, and we won’t have to separate them from the brooder which will be dedicated to its role as a brooder space.
