Just when we think calving season is slowing down, another adorable little face shows up. The farm is filling up with zoomies, wobbly legs, and way too much cuteness.

When the cows just want to go outside… they stare out waiting for the day to be moved. We are days away from our cows going out on pasture!!

Big things have been happening on the farm. We have been working on planting 1,200 trees and shrubs..yes..you read that right. Why would we do that?! Well it’s part of bringing back the farm to its former glory and preventing further erosion by the creek. It’s been a lot of hard work and it’s still not over. It’s been a family affair but we know it’ll be worth it in the end.

Calving season has begun and we couldn’t be more excited! Our first calf of the season is a heifer, M***a (Mona 😉) Lisa!

Mama and baby are both doing great, and we couldn’t be happier to kick off calving season with this little one. Nothing better than seeing new life on the farm, spring is officially here!

Well this was a bittersweet week for us as we said goodbye to three of our best. Our bull Billy the Kidd was sent off to a beautiful farm in Kentucky! While our girls Maggie and Sweet Home Alabama, went to a farm here in Pennsylvania!

While it’s sad when they go off to other farms, we know that they are well taken care of.

Corey was able to sneak away last weekend to the PA Amplify Conference in State College. While there he was able to complete a BQA to become a Certified Producer. It’s been on our bucket list as this certifies our cattle raising practices! While the certification is new our practices are not and we’re proud of that.

While at the conference Corey had the opportunity to meet Cody and Erica Archie from Bar 7 Ranch. Erica worked for the Department of Ag and just last year transitioned to working full time on the farm. Check them out!

No night at Penn State is complete without a live band. Corey and I met at Penn State so seeing Velveeta, a cover band holds a special place for us. IYKYK

Sometimes the best part about having calves is watching what they will come up with. On today’s episode, Maple decided she wanted to climb on top of the bales. No worries, after all little encouragement she came down, but not without a little talking to.

As with much of the US, we spent yesterday prepping for this storm. The thing about these storms is trying to anticipate plan a, b, c, and d. It leads to an inner dialogue of…“Will I have x machine to move this?!”, “Should I put this here or there?!”, “If I can’t start this machine, how will I move this..?!”.

It always a game of trial and error. Our hope is that we prepared enough to anticipate most scenarios. The rest we’ll just figure out as we go 😂. Welcome to farming!

We are kicking off the year by starting to wean our calves. This process can be a loud one but necessary step! Don’t worry though our girl Poppy has a few more months of her mother’s milk!
