Dear Friends of Stevinson Ranch,
It is with great regret that I announce that we closed our golf course last Saturday July 18th. The sad reality is that people are not playing as much golf as they once did and coupled with the impact of this current drought we were not able to continue to operate profitably.
The golf course opened in September 1995 and over the years was recognized as one of the greatest public courses in America by numerous golf organizations and publications. We worked hard at creating a fun and welcoming environment. I jokingly describe myself as “the guy with a hair-brained idea to build a golf course near the epicenter of nowhere.” We understood that we were a bit off the beaten track and that it was not easy to get here, however we always wanted you feeling like it was worth the effort. Our staff was among the best in the business. While I am going to miss playing this great course, I am going to miss my staff even more.
Please be advised that we will continue to operate the Grove Bar & Grill. If you are in the area and wish to stop by for a cold beer or a great burger it would be great to see you. Also, we have been approached by many people with the suggestion to keep the driving range open. While we are not certain that we can operate the range without losing money, my brothers and I have agreed to keep it open for thirty days to see if we can make a go of it. If you would like to see the driving range stay open, I encourage you to support our efforts over these next thirty days. Also, keep in mind that the pavilion will remain as a venue to host weddings, class reunions, corporate gatherings and car shows.
Thank you for all of your support over the years. It has been a really good run. Many great memories were created here that will last a lifetime. I look forward to seeing you at The Grove.
All the best,
George Kelley
