I had intended to do some barn cleaning today while the goats were out enjoying the sun. All was going well until the tractor bucket control lever broke off. Put an end to my plans for the day. Goats will have an indoor playground until the new part arrives next week.

Tom showing off for me. He's 300+ lbs and taller than me standing on his back legs. Not looking forward to handling him this breeding season. He's a hand full.

Since we don't use chemical fertilizer or sprays on the farm, this is what I do every fall before the rain starts. All the goat manure and bedding is composted during the year and spread on pasture and gardens in the fall. The ultimate recycle!

A dam and daughter pair at milking this morning. Missdee's HR Chimere on the left and her daughter, Missdee's OS Chiffon on the right. Really a great example of the consistency in our herd. And for icing on the cake, Chiffon is B/B AS1C.

It's pellet day on the farm! I finally found a decent dairy ration produced by a local dairy family feed mill. It has a base of corn, peas and oats with no fillers. Problem is that their formulation is ground and almost impossible for the goats to eat. So I made the leap and purchased a 9" flat plate pellet mill that is driven by my tractor pto. I've never had a grain ration that goats eat this well. They go through about 50 # a day. I process 250 # at a time. It takes a couple hours but it's what I do for the goats.

Kidding is done for the year and it's time to continue with our herd reduction. The goal is to get down to no more than 15 does. I have posted a first pass of milking does for sale on our farm website at https://missdeesalpines.farm/herd-reduction.html. We also have dry yearlings and 2025 kids for sale. Any does you may be interested in but are not on the for sale list, please contact us.
