Who is Bama Mama? ❤️🐘

I’m a local mom of 12 kids(you read that right) who somehow found a ministry right here on the University of Alabama campus… and I didn’t even plan it.

What started as a few weeks of Uber driving turned into something I never expected.

I realized quickly that it wasn’t just about getting students from one place to another. It became about making sure they got where they needed to go safely… while having those little “mom talks” along the way.

You know the ones — the advice, the encouragement, the “you’re going to be okay” conversations.

There have been so many moments in my car that reminded me these students are away from home… but they still need someone looking out for them.

So I decided to take it a step further.

Now, as Bama Mama, I help support both students and parents while they’re here at UA.

I offer:
• Student check-ins
• Special deliveries to make your student feel loved
• Rides to and from the Birmingham airport
• Grocery runs and apartment needs
• Help getting your Airbnb ready for your visit

If your student needs something while they’re in Tuscaloosa…
I’m their Bama Mama.

Ride Smart, Travel Safe

A Message from the Uber Mama ❤️🚗

College life means late nights, airport trips, football weekends, and getting around Tuscaloosa. Ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft can make travel easy, but it’s important to stay aware and travel safely.

Here are a few Uber Mama safety tips every student should keep in mind.

Before the Ride

• Request your ride only through the official app. Never accept rides from someone who approaches you claiming to be a driver.

• Wait inside until your ride arrives. Choose a safe, well-lit pickup location.

• Verify the vehicle. Always check the make, model, and license plate listed in the app before getting in.

• Your driver should know your name. If they can’t confirm who they’re picking up, don’t get in the car.

• Share your trip with someone you trust. Most apps allow you to send ride details and ETA to a friend or family member.

• If possible, travel with friends. There is always safety in numbers.

During the Ride

• Sit in the back seat and wear your seatbelt.

• Follow your route in the app or on your phone’s map so you know where you are going.

• Let someone know you’re in the car. A quick call or message lets others know you’re on the way.

• Protect your personal information. Avoid sharing too many details with drivers.

• Never pressure a driver to speed or break traffic laws.

• Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, call 911 immediately.

After the Ride

• Exit the vehicle in a safe, well-lit area.

• Rate your driver and report any concerns through the app so the company can address the issue.

• If your driver provided great service, consider leaving a tip. Drivers appreciate it more than you know, and it’s a simple way to say thank you for a safe ride.

Getting around campus should be easy and safe. A little awareness goes a long way.

Travel smart, take care of each other, and Roll Tide.

✈️ Spring Break Travel Reminder for Bama Students

Spring Break always flies by, and before we know it students will be heading back to Tuscaloosa for classes.

If your Bama student needs a ride from the airport back to campus, now is a great time to start planning ahead. Return travel days can get busy quickly.

Parents — having transportation lined up ahead of time can make getting back to campus smooth and stress-free.

Safe travels to everyone enjoying Spring Break this week, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Bama soon!

Alright… let’s talk about something the internet is currently arguing about.

Uber recently rolled out a feature that allows women riders to request women drivers, and women drivers can choose to only accept rides from women passengers if they prefer.

The goal is to help some riders feel more comfortable and safe, especially during late night rides.

And as you can imagine… the internet already has a lot of opinions.

So let’s see where Tuscaloosa lands on this 👇

Comment A, B, or C

A – Great idea. Safety and comfort matter.
B – I understand the idea, but it raises some questions.
C – Not a fan of the change
