Our friend and neighbor caught this epic shot of an eagle flying away with one of our trout. Honestly, the poor guy has been waiting a long time for this. Iโ€™m almost glad Mike left the cover sideways this morning so he could get the meal heโ€™s been waiting for.

Hey yโ€™all! Itโ€™s a gorgeous fall at Sycamore Springs. Mike and I get lots of questions about the trout farm, so hereโ€™s a update. Mike changed day jobs this year and started Patterson Remodel and Repair. In his spare time, heโ€™s working on the remodel of the cabin on the property which will be our new home. Until then, weโ€™re โ€œcampingโ€ in a shop. This spring, we hope to have moved the cabin remodel along and have Mikeโ€™s business well-established. With any luck and grace we will start out first trout next year. This is such a beautiful and magical place. We canโ€™t wait to share it! Despite many hours of elbow grease and the help of good friends, we still have a LOT of vegetation in our spring. Our next step is oxygenation and improved water flow to help naturally reduce the moss and โ€œgunkโ€ and to create a healthy environment for trout. We have heard that the spring used to bubble up in the center section and flow over the spillways, creating a good flow of water in the outer raceways. Now the water seems to force up from the lower concrete seams, keeping the center fairly stagnant. Weโ€™re debating on creating a piping system to force the water back into the center (best option, would take the longest) or just investing in electric pumps (quickest, some risk if we lose power). We are anxious to get our first set of baby trout. Hopefully soon! ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ๐ŸŸ
