Meadowmist Rarity Robin lookin gooooooood 😎
I am so beyond pleased with her and her sister Solo. They have definitely been on the smaller side of babies, but Robin has finally hit a very nice growth spurt and is starting to fill out beautifully. Solo's growth spurt hasn't started yet, but it is coming!
Robin has enough personality to be an entire herd of goats all on her own. She is very attached to me, follows me everywhere, haphazardly hopping and kicking up dirt all along the way. There is no one she will not fight. Or challenge. This girl is going to be a top goat someday, as soon as her size allows her. On top of that, with nice conformation finally really solidifying as she fills out (not that youd be able to tell in this picture, since she was trying for the "inverted dolphin" or something 😆), and genetics behind her full of fantastic udders and show winners, I am so excited to see her and Solo in milk and on test.

Genuine question. How awful or odd would it be if I suddenly decided to totally rename and rebrand my farm? Including ADGA herd name changes.
I had decided on Apple B Acres many years ago after the goat, Apple, that made me fall in love with goats. I was already involved heavily in the dairy and large animal industry, but because of him, I found my real passion within it. The B was for my last name, as I had always nicknamed him my Applebee, however while I still very dearly love my Apple, I feel that the farm has outgrown that name. I do have new names in mind, and figure before launching a big line of products and applying for new USDA licenses, if I'm going to do a name change, it should probably be now.

These two pretty wether boys are still looking for a pet barn 🥰 at a very significant discount! Comet, on the left, is polled and such a cuddle lap boy. Star on the right is horned and a bit of a chaos boy, but without the troublemaking part of it. Both were born April 2026 and are from a clean tested herd against CAE and Johnes. Tustin 49688.

No, Valkyrie here is not sick. But she sure looks it!
The red rimmed eyes, the patches of fur missing, the discharge. Valkyrie had an allergic reaction to one of the vaccines. This is very rare, and actually the first time I've seen a reaction in this form. She does not (and never did get!) the pinkeye that ran through the doe pen, and when I walked outside to see her like THIS, I was obviously quite concerned. After a thorough evaluation though, we determined that she is simply having an allergic reaction. Not a deadly kind, but still a fairly severe one.
Due to this, Valkyrie is not going to get revaccinated. This is a great time to highlight the importance of herd immunity. The vaccine I gave her was slightly different than normal. While herd immunity wouldn't necessarily apply to things like tetanus or entereotoxemia types C&D (the CDT vaccine I typically do annually) because those live in the environment and are not contagious, this new vaccine includes protection against pinkeye, to prevent that from running its course through my goats again. So, clearly the normal CDT vaccine is fine for her, but Vision 7 is not. However, with the rest of the goats having had the vaccine, herd immunity should hopefully help protect her from pinkeye (should this nightmare ever somehow wiggle its slimy way into my herd again 🙄). Vaccines are important, guys. Herd immunity is a proven scientific concept. Are there chances of reactions? Of course. There is with everything, even simple vitamin shots! However, this is the most extreme case I've ever seen, and honestly, its still not that bad. Not near as bad as getting pinkeye so severely she goes blind. Nor even a fraction as bad as contracting tetanus. Have you ever seen a goat with tetanus? I hope you never, ever do because it is one of the slowest, most painful and agonizing ways to go with absolutely no treatment or cure once symptoms start. And you won't, if you have a strict vaccine program.
