THINGS NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT FARMING
“He's Just a Farmer...”

Just a farmer.

Three little words that don't even begin to describe what this man does.

What people don't realize is that a farmer doesn't have just one job. He has dozens. And most days, he's doing several of them before the rest of the world has finished their morning coffee.

He's a veterinarian, recognizing when an animal is sick, helping deliver calves, treating injuries, and sometimes fighting all night to save a life.

He's a mechanic, diagnosing problems and repairing equipment that costs more than most people's homes. Because when something breaks during planting or harvest, waiting isn't always an option.

He's an agronomist, understanding soil, fertilizers, weeds, insects, diseases, and what his crops need to survive.

He's a meteorologist, watching the skies, studying forecasts, and making decisions around weather he has absolutely no control over.

He's a nutritionist, making sure hundreds of cattle get the proper feed, minerals, and nutrients to stay healthy.

He's an equipment operator, driving everything from tractors and combines to sprayers, balers, semis and heavy machinery.

He's a welder, carpenter, plumber, electrician, and fence builder, because on a farm, if something needs fixing, there's a good chance he's the one fixing it.

He's a businessman and accountant, managing loans, expenses, markets, and budgets while gambling hundreds of thousands of dollars on crops that aren't guaranteed to produce a profit.

He's a caretaker, responsible for animals that depend on him 365 days a year. No holidays. No weekends off. No calling in sick because the cows still need fed.

And somewhere in between all of that, he's a husband, a father, and a man trying to keep a family farm going for another generation.

The truth is, farming requires knowledge in more professions than most people will ever realize. Much of that knowledge wasn't learned in a classroom. It was passed down through generations, learned through mistakes, long nights, broken equipment, and years of experience.

And here's something else nobody tells you...

When you own a farm, you don't get to clock out just because you're tired. The work doesn't stop because the sun goes down. And the responsibility doesn't disappear when the paycheck doesn't come.

So the next time someone says, "He's just a farmer," remember this:

He's not just a farmer. He's an entire workforce wrapped into one hardworking man.

And I'm pretty proud of mine. ❀

Too cute not to share
after the fair closed down Monday night, the kids still weren’t ready to call it quits! Luckily, some of the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office crew were up for a little football. 😂🏈

It’s the unexpected little moments like these that remind us how grateful we are for our community. Thank you to the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office for taking the time to make the kids’ night — they had a blast! 💙

What a fair for the Lanting crew!

This was Addison’s last year, and boy did she go out with a bang! đŸ’„ She finished her final year with a Grand Champion Market Steer, FFA Senior Beef Cattle Showmanship Grand Champion, AND Overall Grand Champion Showman! 🏆 She also competed in Round Robin on Sunday and definitely made her last fair one to remember.

Addison put in countless hours, a whole lot of love, and plenty of hard work over the years, and it sure showed. We couldn’t be more proud of the way she finished out her final fair. Hard work pays off! ❀ And thank you to the Nelson family for your encouragement, support, and help!

A huge thank you to TLC Angus, Valley Wide-Buhl, MCM, Mavencamp’s, Hempton’s, and Lanting Vet for coming together to purchase Wabi Sabi! Your support means more than you know.

Kelton had plenty of memorable fair moments of his own! His leather stool earned Reserve Grand Champion after hours of work this summer. His steer, Pedro, won first in his quality class, which put him and Addison together in the heavyweight division—such a cool sibling moment! He and a good friend also showed their steers together in the Breeders Pen of Two and won, and Kelton placed first in his showmanship class, earning a spot in the Intermediate division runoff.

And that still wasn’t all—Kelton brought a cow/calf pair, helped a younger club member show the calf in the PeeWee show, and his little bull brought home Champion Bull! 🏆🐂 Safe to say he kept himself busy!

Odie had another great year with his steer and even got the chance to show a micro mini Highland, which he thought was pretty dang cool. đŸ˜‚đŸ€Ž

A big thank you to Nannini Inc. for purchasing Odie and Kelton’s steers and supporting these kids and all of the work they’ve put in. We are so thankful for your continued love and support! đŸ–€

And of course, little Lillie had to get in on the action too! She got to show Wabi Sabi in the PeeWee show, making for one more pretty special fair memory. đŸ„č🐼

Fair takes a whole crew, and we are so thankful for everyone who showed up, cheered them on, helped behind the scenes, supported the sale, and loved on these kids all year long. We are very blessed.
