Parrotts Organic Farm has been around since 1912.
Twin Falls, ID

In 1913 Orville Parrott stopped on his way to the Willamette Valley to see Charlie Carter who had a homestead on the new Salmon Tract irrigation project south of Twin Falls . He stayed on and sent for his wife Anna and 3 year old son Elmer. His 4 brothers 2 sisters and father soon left northeast Kansas for Idaho. Elmer grew up with the uncles and aunts near by.Orville and then Elmer farmed this farm until retirement. Eric Parrotts 3 sons and daughter ages 8 to 18 are the 6th generation on the land. His family provides the bulk of the work...except that former B24 pilot Marlin Arford puts in 12 hour missions on the tractor most of the summer. The farm crisis of the 80s taught us to get off the chemical treadmill and to seek our own markets. The 400 acre farm and pasture land was certified organic in 1992.We have 90 mother cows and calves and grow on pasture the calf crop to a 1100 pound market weight, selling those to Atkinsons market and individuals. Thirtyfive llamas and their babies serve as weedwhackers. A 2 acre garden provides 15 vegetables and fertile soil for experimenting with new crops Friends have called the place "Parrott National Park" ...for its trees and view of the Sawtooths
