Check out this pastrami just out of the smoker. Brined for a week along with the brisket we made into corned beef for St Pats. Smoked all day long and it came out amazing! Lots of options with brisket, and we have a bunch in the store for purchase. Check out our online store in the bio above.

Bresaola anyone? Did you know you can make your own air cured beef at home. Check out this bresaola I made from an eye of round roast from our grass fed and pasture finished steers from this summer. Really, really tasty stuff.

Not a lot of snow left at the ranch, but enough for Hyper to enjoy. We really could use another big dump of snow before spring arrives. One can only hope. Had a nice slow cooked arm roast to warm up to last night. Tasty and yet under appreciated cut of beef. Check out the online store if you want to try a roast or some osso buco before the last of the cold weather.

Looks like the beavers are still hard at work getting ready for the winter. Hope to catch a glimpse of one of them before the river freezes up. Perfect stretch of the river for natures civil engineers to do their thing.

Absolutely stunning Fall day on the Twisp River. Always one of my favorite times of the year in the Methow. Though when I think about it, almost every day in the Methow is beautiful and amazing. Next picture might be a frozen and snow covered scene, so stay tuned!

For folks that have been following the saga of our bridge, I’m happy to report that once again we have a working bridge! It has been three years to the week since the bridge was damaged during the response to the house fire, and we are excited to be able to drive across the river again. We’ve had to be creative loading cattle, getting hay to the ranch, and moving gear back and forth. Very grateful to Palm Construction for taking on the project this winter. Really nice work by Jerry and his crew. A huge shout out to Chris at Methow Valley Salmon Restoration Foundation for the ideas, the large support beams, permit assistance, and a major dose of optimism to make the project happen. Thanks to the support and encouragement of friends and family along the way. Looks like we are back in business! So place your orders for grass fed, pasture finished beef from the Lightning River Ranch (aka the Broken Bridge place).

Yogi Bear Attacks! Remember when Yogi and Boo Boo went off to steal some Pickinik baskets? This is where they actually went and wiped out one of our bee hives. The changing climate and effects on our local weather patterns really disrupted the natural fruit and berry production that the bears rely upon for food. A shame that the bees were the next ready alternative. Glad I had already pulled the supers of honey off for the winter.

Infrared camera says that the bees in this hive are still alive and well. Great tool to check in on bee activity. Fingers crossed that the girls are still going strong at this barn dance a month from now.
