Jimmy’s story gave our first bourbon its name, but the story didn’t stop there.

Jimmy’s grandson Jim was a physician who loved spending his free time working alongside Kiepersol founder Pierre at the still during the early years of the distillery.

After Pierre passed away in 2016, Jim retired from medicine and stepped fully into distilling at Kiepersol.

He helped establish the taste direction for Kiepersol bourbon and expanded the portfolio that followed.

Jimmy was the storyteller.
Jim became the distiller.

And a bottle carried through World War II became part of Kiepersol’s own bourbon heritage.

Kiepersol is hitting the road for a night!

Carrie & Dylan are heading to The Bird & Butterfly Inn in Jasper for their third annual Spirits Night, and this year they’re taking things back to the 1950s.

It’s a five-course dinner with each course paired with a 50s-inspired cocktail featuring Kiepersol w**e or spirits. Think a Jungle Bird with spicy crab salad and mango, a Manhattan with beef tenderloin and mushroom risotto, and even a boozy strawberry malt with pound cake to finish the night.

1950s attire is strongly encouraged, so we expect to see some poodle skirts, leather jackets, and your best attempt at looking like you belong at a 1950s cocktail lounge.

Seating is very limited with only 24 guests for the evening.

Tomorrow is the start of Bourbon Heritage Month, and this year we’re telling our own bourbon story.

It begins long before Kiepersol ever had a still.

Jimmy Hines was a 17-year-old Navy torpedo bomber pilot during World War II. During flight school, he was instructed to keep bourbon, ci**rs and peppermint gum in the ammo bag behind his seat. If he was ever shot down behind enemy lines, those items could help him barter his way back to safety.

There were cold nights when Jimmy would open his bourbon bottle, take a deep smell, recap it and put it away.

And somehow, that bottle made it all the way to the end of the war still full.
“I never once took a sip.”

Next Monday, we’ll continue the story and tell you what happened to it.
