Well, hail. Straight from drought almost doing the pumpkin plants in to a hail storm 🤦‍♀️ Honestly, this is no big deal, some friends of ours about 10 miles across our county from us had golf ball to baseball size hail that blew out all of their north facing windows in their house. My pumpkin plants are the worst damage on our property, very grateful we were spared worse damage.
Plants are crazy resilient so I’ll definitely give my patch some time and see which plants bounce back and the ones that don’t I’ll pick any pumpkins that are ripe enough to make it. But anyways, this is showing me there’s lots more pumpkins growing than I thought!! 🎃

It’s been a bit touch and go for the pumpkins this year due to pretty serious drought conditions but many plants have survived and now that we’ve gotten some good drenching rains they seem to be thriving! These three jack-o-lanterns matured pretty early- my best scientific guess would be that during the bad drought conditions the plants were trying to do what plants do and hurry up to make fruit so that they could leave seeds/multiply. Their plants now look very healthy so I cut these off in hopes that their plants will get the signal to make more pumpkins now. I’m thinking that the rest of the pumpkins may come on pretty late due to rough starting conditions but at the very least it looks like I’ll have a ton of Jack-be-little orange and white lol. The LAST hurrah! I will be at the Market at the Meridian this Saturday August 8 and the Sunflower Festival - Highmore, SD Saturday August 15. And then that’s it for my flower farm this season…. Hopefully I’ll have pumpkins in October! Not been a lot of rain but I have seen some little ones starting to grow!
