wishing we could have realized our solar charger was malfunctioning more than we had thought before this rain 🌧
chad had noticed our charge controller would fault out for an "over voltage" code way before it was near the max voltage. well, after he did some troubleshooting yesterday and messing around, no matter how many panels we had connected in a series it was reading the same wattage. we are currently in a battle with the company trying to get an exchange credit to get a different sized charge controller or our money back, or something.
i am grateful for chad's knowledge and understanding of electronics. he has also spent years learning photovoltaic systems. i think a lot of people misunderstand how solar powered energy works. there are so many more components than just the panels catching the energy that have to be considered when creating a system that suits your needs. we even made a costly mistake that works for the now, but wouldn't be sustainable for our needs once our home is built. thankfully we will easily be able to find a new use for this system in the future, but we were planning on trying to use our current system for our home.
it is easy to be mistaken when you don't have a great understanding of something. it is almost natural. we have had many issues aince moving in a week and a half a go. most stemming from misunderstanding. we learned from our misunderstandings and solved most of our issues.
who knew learning photovoltaics would also teach you valuable life lessons.
