Good Rose Homestead

Good Rose Homestead Welcome to our little homestead. We raise beautiful blue laced, splash laced and black laced red Wyandotte, along with standard Tolbunt Polish chickens.

Our birds are raised the natural way, with lots of love, fresh air, organic feed.

Today was a BIG day at Good Rose Homestead!
Our 11-week-old Tolbunt Polish babies got to explore outside for the very first time!

They were a little unsure at first, but curiosity quickly took over! Lots of scratching, pecking, exploring, and tiny Polish heads bouncing around everywhere.

I did have to give one of the pullets a little Polish haircut because her beautiful face feathers had gotten so fluffy that she could barely see! She’s much happier now that she can actually see where she’s going.

Watching these goofy, gorgeous little floofs grow has been so much fun. Their first outdoor adventure was definitely a success!

And I’m pretty sure they’ve decided the great outdoors is now their new favorite place.

Dear Monday,
Respectfully... you can go scratch.
I work in healthcare, so you already know the day started with absolute chaos.
✅ One employee already out with an injury.
✅ Another almost passed out, so I sent her husband to take her to the ER.
✅ My car is in the shop, so I'm driving Jason's vintage truck—the one with the deluxe features: the A/C works on a reward system, the radio has commitment issues, and when it rains... so does the inside of the cab. 🚛💦
I come home at lunch thinking maybe I'll catch a break.
Nope.
My Wyandotte run looked like Woodstock '69 after a thunderstorm. Chickens were one rainstorm away from requesting life jackets.
After work? Home Depot for wood pellets.
Then home to:
✔️ Feed the dog (who is now limping because apparently she got the Monday memo too).
✔️ Feed the cat (the only one acting like life is perfect).
✔️ Dump what felt like 8 million pounds of pellets into the runs.
✔️ Refill every feeder.
✔️ Refill every waterer with supplements.
While raining…
Phone rings.
Another employee is out tomorrow.
At this point I'm expecting one of the chickens to file a complaint with HR.
If anyone needs me, I'll be outside talking to my chickens. They're the only coworkers who haven't called out this week... even if they do p**p on my boots.
Tomorrow has exactly one job: don't make today look like the warm-up act.

We did it...it's finally finished!

After weeks of planning, building, staining, and putting in countless hours, our new coop is officially complete! We couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
A huge shoutout to Jason, who built this beautiful coop from the ground up. His attention to detail, craftsmanship, and hard work brought this vision to life, and I couldn't be more proud of what he created. Every board, every window, every finishing touch reflects the time and care he put into it.

Now it's ready for our growing flock of Tolbunt Polish babies to enjoy.

What do you think of the finished project?

The finish line is finally in sight!

The siding is on, the stain is done, and our Tolbunt Polish coop is really starting to look like home.
We still have the windows, pop door, vent, and hardware cloth to finish, then it's time to fill the run with sand and welcome our Tolbunt babies into their brand-new home.
It's been a labor of love, and we can't wait to share the finished coop with all of you. Stay tuned for move-in day!
