Woven Roots Farm

Woven Roots Farm We recognize the interconnectedness of all life: soil, plants, microbes, insects, and animals.

Woven Roots Farm is a traditional, hand-scale vegetable farm, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and community center, committed to co-creating equitable pathways to becoming better caretakers of the earth and one another. Woven Roots Farm is a traditional, hand-scale vegetable farm, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and education center located on unceded Mohican land in

the present-day southern Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts. Through a deep relationship with the land and one another, we commit to feeding, educating, and empowering our community members by co-creating equitable pathways to become healthier individuals, ethical growers, and caretakers of the earth and one another. Woven Roots Farm recognizes that agriculture itself is rooted in the long-standing cultural practices within communities of Indigenous people, people of color, and immigrants. We acknowledge that the US was built on stolen land and that all US systems are built on the stolen labor of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and other people of color. Located on unceded Mohican land, Woven Roots Farm agricultural practices are centered in the ancestral ways of acknowledging nature as a part of us just as much as we are a part of nature. We embrace these connections and seek to enhance them, not to disturb them. In direct opposition to colonized agriculture, we move through a space of reciprocity to put the needs of the people and the ecosystem as equal. Situated on 10 acres, our farm has just over 1 ⅓ acre in cultivation in a permanent bed, hand-scale, no-till farming system. This system is managed by a dynamic team of 7 farmers that grow over 70 different crops throughout the year.

The Woven Roots CSA season is almost here! Orientation is next week on June 6th, and the first CSA pickup is two weeks away on June 13th. We are thrilled to announce a new Found Bread Club as a CSA add-on, alongside our flower bucket share and Off the Shelf egg share.

The CSA model is the most direct and reciprocal way to participate in our local food economy. Our crops are fresh, flavorful, nutrient-rich, and grown with hand-scale practices that honor ancestral regenerative and resilient farming. Our practices create a mutually beneficial environment that brings joy and balance to the land, body, and spirit.

Your commitment creates generative livelihoods for farmers, rekindles your relationship with the land and your neighbors, and keeps you and your community healthy. Collect your share in the company of supportive CSA members and their families—a space where community members can see ecological farming methods in action while learning about and participating in the health of their community.

Join & Woven Roots Farm in our journey of diving deep into the world of compost and mushroom substrate. Throughout the day, we’ll be looking into the living world of soil and mycelium and sensing how to integrate spent mushroom substrate into home and small-scale farm composting systems. Learn about Woven Roots Farm’s no-till, hand-scale, growing, composting, mulching, and harvesting practices, and how mushroom substrate is being incorporated into their farming practices.

Mushroom substrate is an amazing way to increase the bioactivity of your compost, making your soil rich and nutrients more accessible to plants. We will be looking at compost at all stages: mixing it ourselves, observing a well-inoculated sample, and spreading compost on our beds. We’ll also take a close look at compost throughout the inoculation process via microscopes, guiding you to know what to look for on your own. For those of you who don’t have a microscope at home, this is a great chance to learn how to build one using simple materials and a smartphone. DIY kits will be for sale. Afterwards, you’ll be able to sense into making your own beautiful mushroom compost blend, look for the creatures who make compost happen, and apply this knowledge to your very own beds.

This workshop will be in English and Spanish.
