Gail Fuller exemplifies, "Be The Change". We can all play a part in creating the vibrant communities, health and connection we all yearn for.

Meet one of our speakers for Hallway Conversation #9: Gail Fuller!

Gail’s life journey has taken him on a path from a 3200 acre conventional farm that grew GMO corn and soy (extractive agriculture) to a 162 acre food farm that grows multiple species of livestock and literally dozens of different grains, fruit, nut and vegetable crops (regenerative). Along the way he has learned the value of healthy ecosystems to both his farming operation as well as his own health. Fuller puts emphasis on principles not practices and thinks farming should be about (re)growing communities. As his farm was transitioning, he was contemplating certifying his farm organic when he came across a startling revelation.

Conventional/industrial ag and organic ag are both systems designed to kill. Fuller believes we need to be growing our food in systems designed to live. “Humans have this desire to conquer”, says Fuller. “More often than not, we need to get out of the way and let nature do her thing.”

Gail has spoken at conferences and workshops all over the country and in 2012, along with help from Jill Clapperton, started the Fuller Field School. It has quickly become recognized as one of the premier educational events in the US with speakers and attendees coming from all over the globe. Gail is planning on adding more educational events on his new farm, and is passionate about educating consumers as well. He believes the only way to change food production in the US is from the bottom up. We can’t sit around and wait for the government to fix our broken food system, to heal our broken farmers, or to guide consumers on proper diets. We have to do this ourselves, one consumer at a time and one farm at a time.

Hans and I were lucky enough to hear Dr. Zach Bush in person a few years ago. He has such a beautiful outlook on life and so many critical messages to share.

The scientific community needs to come to grips with the fact that human biology is the result of the organic garden that we are born within. Destroying the soil systems of the human body are the pathway to chronic dysfunction and disorder.

Another particle in the long line of incredible science has just been published out of Rutgers University. This study demonstrates that in utero or perinatal exposure to penicillin even at very low doses alters not only the microbiota of the intestines, but also the downstream genetic expression within the frontal lobe and amygdala. Interestingly these changes in the brain are sufficient to increase the fear and stress response within the child that develops in the context of this antibiotic exposure.

Glyphosate is the most ubiquitous antibiotic on the planet. Every time you or a child eats conventionally grown produce and meat and dairy products, they are setup for long term suffering.

What does the world look like with unregulated fear?
The proof is all around us. We are polarized not just against one another. We are polarized against nature itself.

Get out into the great outdoors today. Breathe your biome. Touch the nature that can heal us. Remember your origin story. Your health is not waiting for the next technological breakthrough from the pharmaceutical chemical complex. Your health is waiting to rebirth within you as you embrace the nature that allowed you to be here now, at the tipping point of all things.

Stand strong all of you. Do not fear. Beauty abounds.

Proving we're not just in fly over country.

I don't share many things but this is too spot on not to. Whole foods don't make processors any money.

I always tell my patients,

If you eat whole fruits, only the farmers and the grocers make money.
If you drink fruit juices, the farmers, the grocers, the blender machine companies, the packaging companies, the advertisers, the doctors, the pharmaceutical companies and so on all make money.
They have an epiphany there and then.

Eat a whole foods minimally processed omnivorous diet that includes fresh meat, whole eggs, full fat dairy, vegetables, nuts, seeds, some whole fruits and controlled portions of whole grains(if desired). It will naturally be lower in carbs, higher in natural good fats, and rich in essential protein and contain all the vitamins and minerals the human body needs. Most of us will not need any artificial supplements eating like this.
And we will also keep diabetes and other metabolic diseases at bay. 🙏

THE PROFIT IS IN THE PROCESSING

Here’s their plan:

1) Realize that selling whole foods barely provides a profit

2) Instead, take the whole food and process it by adding sugar, refined grain, and veg oil

3) Make 10x profits

4) Use that money to brainwash the masses with billions of dollars of advertising, fast food on every corner, and processed food in every grocery aisle

5) Fund studies and form dietitian schools continuing the misinformation

6) Call real-food, species-appropriate diets harmful, dangerous, and a fad

7) Profit further

Make sense?

Until the profits and incentives (somehow) move to real foods, we’ll always be screwed

There’s really no amount of education that can disrupt this cash machine

Squeeeee! Art At The Arb is on this year! I'm going to be there for 2 days to listen to all the great music and check out all the great vendors. Oh yeah! I'll have my soap available there as well. I'll have all my regular bars for sale as well as something new. How about full logs of my best selling scents?

I have paper scraps left over from wrapping soap. Tons of patterns. They're pieces just too big to throw away. If you have crafty kiddos or know of a teacher that could use them for crafts please take these. I'll leave them in our farm store. Totally free.

If you come out to the farm this weekend. There's a good chance I'll have eggs available! My new flock has started laying. The eggs are small but mighty. We have the hens on lush cover crop growth so they are eating lots of greens. $2.50 per dozen until egg size increases.

Something I think about a lot, especially this past year. Technology is amazing and can lead to all sorts of amazing outcomes BUT it will NEVER replace face to face human contact. There's something significant that is lost through the computer screen. Case in point. I had a cow calve and come down with milk fever on Friday. This is an issue that is easily dealt with but very much a life and death situation for the cow. It requires administration of medicine through an I.V. I've given I.V.'s before but I've only been able to figure out how to do it through the milk vein in a cows belly. This is not ideal and I have always wanted to learn how to administer one properly through the neck vein. I've watched all sorts of YouTube tutorials to try and figure it out but I never got the knack for it. For this cow, I had called the vet to come out for an emergency visit early in the day on Friday. They were understaffed so no-one could come out until that evening. I didn't find that acceptable so I opted to try and give her an I.V. myself. I was unsuccessful because I couldn't access the belly vein properly. I ended up having the vet come out that night anyways. Here's the big part. I watched him give the I.V. and asked him a few questions about the procedure while he was doing it. The cow showed huge improvement Friday night but on Saturday her health started to decline again. She needed another I.V. I gathered up my supplies and Hans as a helper and tackled the problem. I copied everything the vet did and low and behold, I hit that neck vein on the first try!!! I successfully gave her a proper I.V.! I knew the procedure from watching online videos but seeing it done in person just made all the right connections in my brain. In person I was able to pick up on all those little nuances that are just lost through a computer screen. FYI, the cow is doing great and she had a little heifer calf.
