Same hen. Same week. Same feed. Same genetics. Totally different bloom.
The egg on the left was laid by this hen 7 days ago. The egg on the right? Same chicken butt today.
Nothing changed—same feed, same water, same environment.
This is a perfect example of something I try to explain to customers: heavy blooms and speckling aren’t “on” 100% of the time. Genetics determine a hen’s ability to produce these beautiful finishes, but the amount of bloom or speckling she deposits can vary from one egg to the next. Even the exact same hen can lay dramatically different-looking eggs from day to day.
So if you’ve requested a dozen “super bloomy” or heavily speckled eggs, please know that while every egg may not look like the one on the left, they all come from hens with the genetic potential to lay eggs like that. Today’s less-bloomy egg could easily be tomorrow’s showstopper.
That’s part of the fun (and frustration!) of working with nature instead of a paintbrush. 🐔🥚
