Chamberlin's Farm

Chamberlin's Farm A scenic farm in Underhill VT with a farm store, sweet corn, pick your own flowers, pumpkins and more!

Paul and Joan Chamberlin started the family farm shortly after moving here in 1976. It was established as a hobby farm and family activity making use of the land. In the late 70s and 80s they started selling sweet corn on the side of the road out of a wheel barrow for some pocket money for their boys, and this grew into the iconic farm business it is today. The Chamberlin's raised cattle and horse

s in the beginning but transitioned into vegetables after Paul developed an allergy to the animals. By the early 90s we were growing over an acre of diversified vegetable crops, 2 acres of strawberries, 4 acres of pumpkins, 6 acres of sweetcorn and 60 acres of hay. The farm stand, placed in the front of the current farm building, built in 1993 was used as a storefront to sell the vegetables, flowers, local baked goods, maple, and honey. The farm dialed back production in 2016 so retirement could be a little more relaxed, but continued operations for the biggest crops of hay, sweet corn and pumpkins. In 2023 Paul & Joan's Grandson Andy and his wife Kiley will be managing the farm and will be adding new products as they experiment with different crops and test out new markets.

Goodnight farm!
It’s been a crazy week over here! We took apart a wagon for a rebuild. We cut and baled straw, completed a new high tunnel, outfitted it with compost, w**d mat, and irrigation from the river. We transplanted the flower garden, pumpkins, gourds, squash, cucumbers, catnip, peppers and melons. We direct seeded another planting of corn and the pumpkin patch.

We’re thankful for a rainy weekend to catch up and lay low in the house.

We’re growing our own straw to use as mulch between garden rows and this winter rye looks great! So does the few random peas that I seeded last summer that didn’t do anything. 😅

Our new tunnel is complete!! We’re so excited to put it to use. Big thanks to for pounding this out in in 7 days and doing an excellent job while I kept up with farm tasks and my day job.

Build photos will be shared after I edit them off my nice camera, but I’ve got a bunch of planting to do first!

We pulled the roof poly at 6am.
Tilled by 1pm
Laid out by 5pm
Two rows of tomatoes planted by 8pm with drip tapes in place.

Another marathon week by the looks of it!

Id say I got those amendments spread in the nick of time of time!

No roof over the new high tunnel yet. A few wind gusts blew right before the crew got started so it got postponed. Better delayed than having a 40x120’ piece of plastic flapping the breeze.

The sunset last night cast pretty cool shadows of the bows on the end wall. The doors and fans got mounted this morning, it’s almost ready for use!

Part of the marathon planting last week included bare roots strawberries. These will be the start of the 2027 crop, and the other half will get planted in August. These get hand planted with a simple tool to jab the roots down into the soil. We had to break it up into a few afternoons because after about 500 bends our backs have had enough. We planted a total of ~4,000 plants! The ones in August will be much easier as we can use the water wheel to plant those.
