Not every egg in the hive tells a good story. 🐝

This is what a laying worker looks like — multiple eggs scattered across cells instead of the single, centered egg a healthy queen lays. When a colony loses its queen, worker bees can begin laying unfertilized eggs. The problem? Workers were never meant to lay, so they drop eggs haphazardly — sometimes 2, 3, or even more per cell.

These eggs will only develop into drones, which means no new workers and a colony headed for trouble without intervention.

As beekeepers we check for this during every inspection — it’s one of the reasons knowing what healthy brood looks like matters so much. 🍯

🐝 From Egg to Worker Bee in Just 21 Days! 🍯

Ever wonder how quickly a honeybee develops inside the hive? It’s pretty amazing…

In just 21 days, a worker bee goes from:
• Egg (Days 1–3)
• Larva (Days 4–9)
• Pupa (Days 10–21)

…and then emerges as a young worker bee.

But her job isn’t done—it’s just getting started. Newly emerged workers spend their first days inside the hive cleaning cells, feeding brood, and helping maintain the colony before eventually moving on to other roles.

Every bee you see represents a whole team effort inside the hive.
