The pasture is flooded in some places just like our front yard in the picture. I just let the ewes out and most of them checked out the flood just to see what it was. In the barn the new set up of the lambing jugs is almost ready. Today is the due date for lambing to begin. It doesn't look like any lambs will be here very soon. The ewes are rotund, and some are doing the pregnancy shuffle. No obvious bags aren't showing on any of them. (Something could be happening, but they are also rounded up with fleece.)

Lambs are on my mind followed by fleeces. Yesterday, we vaccinated and changed coats where needed. Seeing those fleeces makes me think that there will be some awesome fleeces in a couple months. Seeing the bulging sides of the ewes makes me think there will be some lively lambs leaping around in a few weeks.

My little lamb who was only 3.5 pounds at birth was the first one of the lambs to get a coat. This probably happened because he is the friendliest of all the lambs. It was also probably why we withered him when I learned that he would be mostly white eventually. The other picture is four of the five lambs that stayed here this year. I think we will have some lovely lamb fleeces from them. The missing one is a black/grey katmoget. The grey katmoget in the picture is the lamb who was only 2.5 pounds at birth. She is also a sweetheart.

Lambs are growing nicely and are so much fun to watch. In the group picture up front you can see the lamb who was only 2.5 pounds at birth. She is growing nicely, but the lamb behind her is still much bigger. The other picture is a close up picture of Harriet and Little Miss Muffet.

Shearing is on my mind!! One is done - fifteen to go. That first one is always a difficult thing, but F***y was a perfect lady. She lambed first this year, and one of her twin ewes was so small. She didn't make it, but the twin is big and lively.

All three of my first time mothers have very small bags, and two of them had single small lambs, only 2.5 and 3.5 pounds. Isn't this odd? I have never had it before.

Three more lambs born last night after 9:00 p.m not simultaneously. Twins: black gulmoget and grey, possible gul/kat. The single is a lovely solid coal black. All three are ewes. (Color is due to heat lamps.). Weary shepherd. Three more ewes to lamb.

Within the first hour of birth, with only assistance from an older ewe, all three rams were up and just getting moving when I got to the barn this morning. They are out of Windy Prairie Sun Flower and Winter Sky Ernie Banks. Pretty flashy little guys!!

All I got to show for being one week into when the ewes could lamb is two darling little moorit ewes, one gulmoget, the other spotted. Sadly we lost the twin of the first born. These two girlies and their mothers got moved to a bigger pen to keep each other company today. Maybe that will give the other girls some incentive to relieve themselves of their burden. They must be close just looking at the way they walk.
