Deacon's Garlic

Deacon's Garlic In the Fall of 2007 our first garlic crop was put in using a couple dozen bulbs of Austrian porcelain garlic donated by a friend.

To our surprise we had a 100% success rate harvesting 158 bulbs and we were hooked! In 1985 our family purchased the original farm house and 10 acres of a 300 acre farm seven miles from Aurora, NY. Here we raised four daughters and enjoyed successfully raising a wide variety of farm animals. However, we were never good at raising a garden. Friends suggested trying our hand at growing garlic, which

they claimed can be done even if one has a black thumb for growing other produce. So, in the Fall of 2007 our first garlic crop was put in using a couple dozen bulbs of Austrian porcelain garlic donated by a friend. We then did research into the best planting practices and reached out to other garlic farmers which including attending Cornell University’s Annual One Day Garlic School. As our success in growing garlic continued so did our passion of teaching others to grow their own garlic. Our grandchildren have been our favorite students as they come over to “play garlic” and one has even started his own garlic patch on our farm.
