We are busy getting millet and sorghum in the ground the next few weeks. Over the years we have experimented with planting brown top millet and WGF sorghum for turkeys. We plant 1 acre+ fields, strips along the roadsides, and strips around clover fields. We mow a few strips each month from plant maturity until April. This has increased the amount of food available to turkeys, which has increased the carrying capacity of the properties and our success rate in the spring. 📷: @ Bullock County Joel Tate Hunter Smith

Only about 25% of our turkey nests were successful last year. Raccoons and opossums account for the majority of the predation on nests. We are are experimenting to see the effects of intensive trapping on properties 1000 acres and smaller in Alabama.

The second big male we have trapped in the past week. February through March is the breeding season for coyotes. It's a great time to get them before they begin multiplying.

Strong start to the season. Two bucks and 5 does have hit the dirt the past 3 weeks. Gun season kicks off Saturday!

David, from Georgia, had an action packed opening weekend but wasn't able to make a bird flop. Had a double beard hang up at 70 yrd. But High Ridge's own Thomas Paterson and Tyler Neal got the job done opening morning.
