We’re proud to share that today’s The Citizen newspaper highlights the Growing Hope Cayuga Food Systems Career Day, bringing students and industry leaders together to explore innovation in food production and agriculture.

Spruce Haven Farm is honored to be part of this work through Doug Young, who serves on the board of Growing Hope Cayuga, helping support opportunities like this for the next generation.

We’re also proud to see the next generation represented close to home. Avery Koch, daughter of our manager Jason Koch, participated in the event through the Union Springs FFA, continuing to build her knowledge and passion for agriculture.

A meaningful day for our community and a strong step forward for the future of food.

Growing Hope Cayuga is Rallying for Our Local Food Pantries!

We’re working with New Hope Mills to make sure no pantry in our region goes empty. Our team is coordinating pickups and organizing plans to get food and supplies directly to the pantries that need them most.

Right now, we’re looking for:
-Farmers, grocers, and businesses with any surplus food or products to donate
-Sponsors interested in supporting this effort
-Volunteers who can help with pickups, sorting, and deliveries

If you’d like to donate, volunteer, or learn more, please contact us at [email protected]

Each wagon of chopped corn is headed for our silage pile. Packed tight and fermented, it becomes high-energy feed our cows thrive on when fresh grass is gone.

We hosted a Biochar Open House in partnership with Cornell scientists exploring how manure and biochar can work together to build healthier soils and stronger crops.

Dr. Johannes Lehmann, one of the world’s leading soil scientists with over 120,000 research citations, shared his insights right here on the farm. It was an exciting day with farmers, researchers, and community members gathered to learn and discuss, cameras rolling to capture the conversation.

Big thanks to all who joined us for making this event possible.

Spruce Haven Farm is our first host farm for the fair from Union Springs, NY.

Spruce Haven was founded in 1987 by Doug and Janet Young along with Janet's father Dave Camp. They began with 120 cows and 75 heifers, and they now milk over 2000 cows and have 1800 heifers.

Be sure to stop in and say hello!

Grateful to be a part of it!
