Prohibition was being replaced and the sale of beer made legal. At this time, Charles Salzman was selling Near Beer and Seltzer; while Jake Beim was bottling Crescent Soda. These two young immigrants realized there was an opportunity to sell beer and began doing so. Among their leading beers were Schlitz "The Beer That made Milwaukee Famous" and Feigenspsan P.O.N. "Pride of Newark." Some of the ot
her outstanding products they sold included Wooden Shoe (from where else but Holland)…Stanton, Black Horse, Fox Head and Edelbrew. The extent to which Charles Salzman and Jake Beim knew each other is still unclear; however, thirty years later their sons Rich Salzman and Norm Beim would merge their two companies to create Peerless Beverage Company - the largest wholesaler in Northern New Jersey. The third generation led by our President Scott Beim and Chuck Salzman is currently providing the leadership to take Peerless Beverage Company through its hundredth anniversary when perhaps there will be some fourth generation Salzmans and Beims at the helm. Peerless Beverage Company has moved several times from the original 5,000 square foot warehouse to almost 250,000 square feet in warehouse space, perhaps the largest beer distribution center in the state. A large part of the facility is refrigerated to ensure the best quality care for our products. Our maintenance department keeps a hundred trucks ready to roll so that our customers never run out of their favorite beers. Cheers!
