Well, it finally happened. Our 2026 pasture raised poultry program is underway.

After a good pressure washing and several trips from the brooder, 152 birds made it to their new home.
Here, they will get to dine on grass, seeds, bugs, and some non-GMO grain. Even the occasional worm or caterpillar. It's fun to watch them play keep away from the others when they find something tasty.

They also get moved twice a day, so they are in a clean environment with plenty to eat.

These are just a few reasons why our chicken tastes so good!

When you stop by a neighbors house to lend a quick hand and look out to see this.

Apparently, the boys think my truck is sexy!

A little late day humor. Have a great Memorial Day, everyone.

When your chicken processing appointment and your Thursday Farmer's Market in Rockland are on the same day.

With the almost 90 degree temps of Wednesday, you pack your birds at 7:00 pm and drive to West Gardiner looking at this out the windshield. The camera doesn't do it justice.

Come see us at the Rockland Farmers' Market today at Harbor Park from 9 to 1 for your Memorial Day cookout goodies.

This crew is keeping us pretty busy since going out to pasture. Because the spring flush of grass and the very soft soil conditions, the herd is getting moved twice a day.

This will help us stay ahead of the grass and help with soil compaction.

They are certainly not complaining about fresh grass twice a day.

Maybe the haying equipment will come out of hibernation at the end of the week. Let's see what Mother Nature has to say about that.

You may remember last winter we tried a new feeding method that allowed us to unroll a bale to feed the entire herd at the same time. This allowed everyone a chance to graze while leaving behind some fertilizer to feed the soil.

Below are some pictures taken today of the areas we bale grazed this past winter. Unfortunately, not all the bales unrolled the way we hoped, (we are making a few changes to our hay program this year to correct that) but never the less, there isn't much residual from what little hay was left uneaten and the grass is definitely growing through it. This spring has been cool and damp, but as I drove around this morning, you can definitely tell what areas were bale grazed and what areas were not.

Overall, I am definitely happy with the results so far. Now, to put a few more lbs on the herd. Those results will come later.

Starting Thursday, we will be back at our regular spot at the Rockland Farmers' Market from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

We will have lots of chicken, pork, eggs, and beef.

In honor of opening day, we will have a sale on our regular and nitrate-free ham end roasts to get the season started!

Hope to see you there.

Come visit tomorrow and see what all the fuss is about!
