Our first bull of the year. I'm not sure how he's going to feel about sporting a pink ear tag, but hey, it's in style for this year.

Now, to figure out who mom is?

Story time at the farm.

Date night with Mrs. Farmer is never dull. So, our wash machine decided it was time to retire. When you live in a 220 year old house, installing a new washing and dryer is not a simple task in a space that was never ment to accommodate such a modern set of appliances.

Yesterday afternoon, we scrambled to pick up our new appliances with the plan to install them after afternoon chores.

After almost 3 hours of removing the old, unpacking the new and getting everything to fit, we were in the home stretch. And then we discovered the dryer cord was a foot short to reach the plug.

A quick trip to Rockland at 8:15pm to pick up said item with the isle and bin location in hand. (yes, I have a get it done attitude.) Mrs Farmer went along for the ride with the promise of a little "ice cream" reward for her assistance with the installation.

At 10:15 pm, the first load of laundry was placed, a water leak check, and finally off to bed.

Another exciting date night in the books.

Pic for attention.

Yesterday, our 2026 hay season started. After checking a few spots at the farm, we found some high dry ground to mow to make sure our equipment is working as it should.

This past winter, Mr. Matt and I went through all of our hay equipment to make sure it was well serviced. All repairs were made to help ensure as close to a trouble-free season as possible.

This year, we are making a few changes to how we make hay. The goal is to make our baleage a little drier to aid in unrolling it with our new bale unroller without sacrificing quality.

Today, I mowed and teddered about 7 acres that should yield 15 or so bales. Tomorrow, we rake, bale, and wrap. I am definitely looking forward to seeing the landing fill up with feed for next winter.

Our fields are finally firming up enough to move our layers and the egg mobile to greener grass.

We spent an hour or so repairing the damaged netting from the snow plowso we could set up a new square of grass. Then fired up the tractor, and took them for a little ride. We also put up a nice hot electric wire around the perimeter to keep out the neighborhood pests.

It will take them a couple of days to get settled in their new spot, but hopefully, that won't slow up egg production.

Well, it finally happened. Our 2026 pasture raised poultry program is underway.

After a good pressure washing and several trips from the brooder, 152 birds made it to their new home.
Here, they will get to dine on grass, seeds, bugs, and some non-GMO grain. Even the occasional worm or caterpillar. It's fun to watch them play keep away from the others when they find something tasty.

They also get moved twice a day, so they are in a clean environment with plenty to eat.

These are just a few reasons why our chicken tastes so good!
